I'm still sitting on the 770. Remember that huge upheaval when the N800 came out and we were stuck witting on our barely-a-year-old $400 770s? You caved, I didn't. :P

Seeing how the N810 swept in and isn't a marked improvement over the N800, I for one am waiting until step 5. They can polish their product line on someone else's dime.

The 770 will be left by the wayside soon, and with that, so will I. Hope I've still got a few months left here, I happen to like you guys.

(If it truly is being left behind, OPEN IT. (Why do you think I'm considering an EEE PC?)

If the CES coverage is anything to go by, there are a few Linux based MIDs coming onto the market. Nokia might discontinue the N800, but that would mean that they had only one product at one price point. This way they can have a foot in the entry level and the medium cost markets, assuming they are not selling at a loss to create the market.

I'm in the same boat. Also I find a lot of the comments here to be rather funny. A year ago you could have replaced the 770 and 800 with much of the same arguments that many seem to be using now with the 800 and 810.

Remember that N800 with WiMAX that was announced some time ago. I bet that Nokia isn't building any more N800s because they're upgrading their N800 manufacturing lines to make WiMAX models. It goes like this:
-sell the stock of N800 dirt cheap
-> get more sales for N810
-> bring N801 with WiMAX, maybe a new screen priced similarily to N810
-> profit

Seeing that I do enjoy my N800, I will probably wait for a fire sale and get a spare unit, just like I did when Apple discontinued the MP2100

Just for the record: I would like to hit the 'Thanks' button for linuxrebel's #18 posting above - however there's no 'Thanks' button on that particular posting, for some reason. Well said, anyway.

well, n800 is available from amazon.com at this moment and it's #1 of "Bestsellers in Computers & PC Hardware".
the problem with availability is probably that it is too succesfull :-)

What I see is the big problem for the N800 and me is it's popularity.

I almost bought two for the family for Christmas when they dropped to about $180@. I've been kicking myself mentally since, because now they are about $230@. This was NOT supposed to happen and I've got birthdays coming up that need gifts.
