I thought I'd be cautious and wait until the official release was available before updating my N800, but ever since I finally got around to it, I can't install or update anything. Application manager tells me there are updates available for libglade2-0, makedev and Operating System, but won't let me update them saying: "Some application packages required for the update are missing". In the Details>Problems tab, it says libglade2-0(=1:2.4.0-1osso2) and makedev (=2.3.1-73osso-3) are missing. It did let me install an update for Maps though. I also have found anything that will install, either though Application Manager or maemo.org. Everything already installed seems to work fine.

Am I missing something really basic? I haven't been able to find anyone else experiencing these problems.

Nah... you may just be missing some repositories. The same type of error happens to me from time to time --- ironically, the maps update is the only one I CAN'T install.

What repositories do you have? (Make sure to double-check that they're all marked as active or to-be used.)

In the Application Manager Catalogue, I've got:

Nokia Catalogue
Nokia Catalogue (3rd party software)
Nokia System Software Updates
maemo Extras
maemo

None of them are disabled, but I couldn't see where to check if they're active or to-be used. Am I missing the really good one that makes everything else work?

go to www.gronmayer.com/it and use the search function to find repositories that hold your missing packages. You can then add those repositories to your catalog. ** NOTE** If you already have that repo in your catalog, you should delete your existing one before adding the new one. That should fix your dependency install issues. I have found that for some unknown reason, I occasionally still get dependency problems despite having all the correct repos in my catalog - in that case, I just "Take the Red Pill" and manually install the missing packages.

I'm having the same problem.

I have a list of things to be upgraded:
libdb4-2
libglade2-0
makedev
Operating System

So I try libdb4-3

It fails with
Unable to Install
Software contains updates to packages installed from a different source

And gives me a yes/no.

It doesn't tell me which packages or source.

I highlight it again, hit the I tab and see under problems that it wants to update a version libdb4-2(=4.2.52+dfsg02) but that a package is missing: libdb4-2(=4.2.52-18osso)

Does this mean something from a repo has overwritten what's needed? Or installed it and now the OS wants to use its own version?

Is there a solution?

Going to installed and searching for libdb4 gets me a summary that says update available but not installable, and says in the uninstall tab that the app is libdb4-2(4-2.52-19osso)!

It seems horribly screwed. I really don't want to have to reflash.

Yeesh, talk about bad advice. Operating System is one fun way to make your install non-bootable.

Turn off Red Pill mode and move on.

As for Map, uninstall and reinstall to make it work.

ya is there any way to update a specific lib like libd4.2.5-18osso through wget or some other terminal shell command ????

this would be great to get required ascendancy when they wont list in 'application manager' after repository is confirmed loaded in 'application catalogs'

.. also it's been a fairly long excisting bug that my internet / web browser locks up until I flick my sip: voip on, with the red/green tray icon. that will for some reason jump start it usually.

Am hoping this update to 43-7 fixes things
