But I gotta get this out...
I ordered my Nokia N810 on November right after Thanksgiving... 11/23/07 for us backwards Americans - or 23/11/07 for you forward thinking Eurotopians. And I had to wait until December 6th or so because their "In Stock" indicator was incorrect and they didn't have any in-stock... and I was in a waiting queue that might be fulfilled by the next shipment. So I have to wait until December 6th. Then I get an update on December 6th... I have to wait until December 11th. Fine... I'll wait.
I receive it finally on December 14th.
And in under one week, I was having a major problem with it. It would restart intermittently, I couldn't create the 128mb virtual memory without having to clear my data, which then made my GPS maps all disappear. It also made a few other problems such as http://www.gizmodo.com was taking over 93 seconds just to render properly while my Nokia 770 would do so in a mere 18 seconds or so.
After searching this site, and then finally calling Nokia's help line, I was told to wait for an upcoming OS update... so I waited patiently until December 18th. And once I updated to the final release of OS 2008 - yep, they sent out a product with a beta OS and didn't let anybody know, thanks Nokia - their update to the OS didn't fix a damn thing.
In fact, it got worse. So they say "Send it back to us." I do so... track it to their offices, it was an attempted delivery on Christmas Eve by FedEx. Their offices were closed despite me asking if they would be open/closed. So the extra postage to get it there on the day they told me earlier that they'd be there, even if limited, they'd accept the broken device and work on it.
Fast forward to January 2nd... neither FedEx nor Nokia knows where my device is located. Sorta fitting and ironic... the damn thing has an internal GPS that never worked as well for me. I had to call around to FedEx, even got the information on the driver for that day... and by January 4th, I located the device for FedEx and Nokia, and then made sure they (FedEx) delivered it to Nokia.
Fast forward to January 7th... Nokia can't update their internal systems nor locate the device despite me knowing who signed for it, first initial, last name. Nor can they locate the paperwork for my device, so I have to fill that out again. And on top of that, their website hasn't updated to show the receipt of the item despite me being able to track it.
Now... they tell me that I should wait until January 9th before I attempt to contact them again.
Right.
So on January 9th, I call... get a supervisor. He states to me that he will try to locate my N810, which is still missing and will contact me again in 24-48 hours. This is for a N810 that was received finally by them on January 2nd.
And then I'll invariably have to wait for another 5-10 days. I'm close to starting a refund process. This isn't working out for me in the least.
Seriously... I know that early adopters are oft-burned. But this is insane.
Thanks for letting me share my unhappiness in what I had once considered a very good purchase. Funny thing though... I reflashed my Nokia 770 and it's been oddly rock-solid lately.
