HAHAHAHHAHA nice try.

In all honesty I'd rather not go to the US. I liked San Francisco, everywhere else felt like being on the wrong side of the fence in a zoo.

I went to a punk show in Vegas and kids had back patches (the 1ft x 1ft band patches) wrapped around half their calves on their bondage pants... and most of em were that size. That isn't right! (Nevermind the fact it was the Exploited playing and the kids started slam dancing.. . I'da rather faced down a steamroller.)

ALMOST $600!!!

I just received my N810, and after weeks and weeks of searching for a good price I feel like I paid the highest. Get this, I ordered a brand new one off ebay for US $435 + $30 for USPS shipping. The Canadian dollar at the time was trading at higher than the US. However, by the time PayPal calculated things out, I had paid "$479" Canadian. I thought I could avoid the PST/GST using USPS, as I was never required to pay anything extra on packages coming in from the States via USPS -- but when I received the item from Canada post, I was required to pay an additional $110 in PST and GST!!! I wonder if it's because it was shipped using "USPS express" ? When I add everything up, that puts my grand total at almost $600 for this N810. Jesus Christ!! I don't even feel like opening the box.

Well..

That is pretty much what was payed by people here in Mexico for an N800 when it came out here at the Nokia flagship store. Now that the N810 is out (in the US), the price of the N800 here has dropped to about $350.00

I must mention that the N800 was announced and started selling here much later than in the US. I got my N800 in the US, as you may guess.... now I am looking to get an N810

Here's an update on something else I just discovered...... The Canada Border Services Agency assessed the value of my N810 as $800 on the import form. So I paid essentially double the PST/GST I should have. I had to pay this amount to the Canada Post guy delivering the package, using my credit card.

Now I am wondering what I should do.. should I just call my credit card company and get them to cancel this transaction or should I go through the elaborate "appeal" process to ask CBSA for a refund.

Another thing which pisses me off is that the sender marked the value of the item as gift and $0. Why would our stupid customs take it upon themselves to still charge me PST/GST? I didn't ask the seller to mark it as a gift, but seeing as they did, you would think that the big bad border boys would just let it go as a gift but instead they assess it at TWICE the value and mark on the import form "cell phone".

What would you get back in a refund, about $50? Up to you whether you feel that's worth the time/effort of a refund.

If it were me, I'd probably chalk it up to the cost of doing business in Canada, and be way too excited that I actually had the thing in my hot little hands to be bothered for very long. But, that's just me.

As others have said, if you'd bought it locally, it would have been expensive too. So, you probably would have got hit with a whopping bill either way you tried to order it.

I hope you're enjoying it enough that you'll soon forget the pain of purchasing it!

I'm pretty sure the CBSA can charge you up to double the GST/PST on the device's book value when they think there's a fraudulent value being given (such as "gift $0"). And book value is probably still $400, so you probably don't have grounds to appeal (assuming you want to win).

Hey Nokia, here's a thought - why not sell it in Canada? 32 million tech-savvy, relatively affluent people. That's more than the Nordic countries combined.

Imagine if the Finns had to order their Nokia stuff from neighboring Russia. Things would change.

Hold on to your mosquitos! There are two tablet users in Manitoba!? (Jokes). I think Nokia.ca has it now for $485 (+shipiing?), but probably did not have it listed at the time that morrison ordered theirs.

If you can make it to a border town, and can live with yourself for supporting the devil, the best deal seems to be at Walmart (USA) with in-store pickup. No UPS Store holding charges, or postage/duty. If you don't need the keyboard, the N800 at Buy.com Canada is a great deal!

morrison: I would at least ask, $50 bucks could be used to buy a memory card or something. But as sarah11918 pointed out, enjoy the tablet now that you have it!

It's the quiet provinces you have to watch out for!

Just posting that I noticed an N810 selling on ebay.ca from a guy in Mississauga (looks like he won it and doesn't want it). It's up to 12 bids and $412, but it's local, and he's willing to let you pick up if you don't want to incur any shipping charges:

I'm actually a displaced westerner myself. If I was in the market for the n810, this ebay listing would be perfect. I'm about 15 minutes drive from there.
