Thank you all for your support! We're closing in on 1.500 (currently 1.451) downloads on the competition version (0.0.2), which blows my mind a bit.

General Info: According to the official competition page, the voting for the Maemo.org coding competition is open until September 27th, 2012, 23:59 UTC.

If I'm not totally wrong that means I can publish the new version at the following weekend (Sunday I guess, will check that on the competition thread). Expect great things..

Oh, and please vote for me in the mean time, I'd appreciate it

@knobtviker: I figured as much. I guess I'll write a thin layer around it just to do the deletes. That should be possible until the release.. I hope

@soryuuha: Thanks, that seems interesting. However I'd have to find a way to package the Qt5 release with my app, which I guess the Nokia QS people will not like and thus block a release at the Store. I guess the wrapper around QNetworkRequest will be less hassle for now, but I will keep an eye on it.

Wow, Instago is fourth place in the competition - thank you all so much for voting.

Here are first sneak peak screenshots of the login process of the next public beta (v0.3.0) that is scheduled for this Sunday.

The uses a webview to guide the user directly to the Instagram website. The user authenticates there and Instagram just sends back an authentication code. All the user credentials (like account data and passwords) are managed by Instagram itself. Instago neither stores nor retain any personal data about you (just your Instagram user ID and the oAuth token).

The app will still run without authentication so that users without accounts can still view the popular photo stream, see individual photos and user profiles. However only authenticated users will be able to use their personalised stream, like photos or follow other users.

Today I can finally release the first public beta of Instago after the Maemo.org Coding Competition 2012 is finished. It feels great to finally be able to release and share it.

The greatest leap is obviously the abililty to log in to Instagram. After you authenticated yourself you can view your personal stream (photos of all the people you follow), like photos and follow / unfollow other users.

Following is the changelog, showing the improvements since the competition version (0.0.2):
  • Added authentication with Instagram
  • Added user feed (only when logged in)
  • Added user profile page (only when logged in)
  • Added user relationships (follow/unfollow, only when logged in)
  • Added likes (only when logged in)
  • Added likes via double tap on image (only when logged in)
  • Added image URL sharing
  • Added generic network error message
  • Added notifications for Instagram actions
  • Added automatic paging / loading for gallery images
  • Changed alignment of user profile data
  • Changed icon
  • Changed Instago description text
  • Changed name to “Instago” (capital)
  • Optimized code

You can find the .deb file to download and install on the download page. The source is available on the project repository.

Please report all bugs either here (feedback is welcome, too) on the project page.

More information and general stuff is posted on my n9 development blog.

Happy testing!
