I've been having this issue with my phone where it stays in landscape mode in apps that have a native landscape mode (messaging, web, calender, etc.). I assumed a re-flash would fix everything but I hadn't go around to doing so until now, and it didn't end up fixing it.

I thought I remembered seeing a location in the settings where locking landscape or portrait could be done, but I can't find it after the flash. Am I remembering wrong, or was this something extra I had installed before?

Anyway, anybody happen to have any suggestions on how to fix this? I would definitely appreciate it!

Edit: Oh, it also will not close apps if I swipe from the top down, it only closes them if I swipe from right to left (as if the phone was on its side). But, it did let me swipe down to close in the little tutorial it brings up after the flashing of the phone.

I don't recall installing this, as it looks like it's a paid app and I have to jump through hoops to get paid apps off the Nokia Store (I'm in the U.S.). Was there ever a time this was free? If so, I may have installed it then.

Yes it was free for quite sometime until recent months.

Ah, okay, then I probably did have it installed at some point just to try it out. Could this be affecting the phone even after reflashing it?

I can't be sure, but from the sound of it that's one highly plausible explanation how your device was locked into landscape mode unless you also used N9Qtweak or Unrestricted-UI but I assumed you did not dwell on those area.

Hmm...alright then I'll attempt to download the app and see if I can get any changes going using it. Thanks for the help btw, I'll report back whether or not this fixes it.

Edit: oh yeah, and you're right, I didn't have N9Qtweak or Unrestricted-UI (didn't know about em till now). Maybe I'll give them a go once this is fixed though

Okay I installed the Home Screen Settings application and tried all the different settings, but it still seems to be broken. I am able to lock it into portrait mode for all applications. This makes everything work in portrait as well as lets me swipe down to close. But, any of the other options leave it the same way. For now it's a temporary fix because, in general, I tend to use my phone almost exclusively in portrait mode. But, I would like to figure out the underlying problem here and fix it, as I do occasionally use some applications in landscape mode.

Is it possible the accelerometer in the phone broke? I saw a thread for the N900 about checking to see if it is working, is there a way to do this for the N9 as well?

I think it's time to call in a more suitable person here to help you as this becomes way beyond my understanding. If it's possible could you reach thedead1440, he knows quite a lot about the phone and pretty helpful. Just send him a PM to point him to this thread.

Strange but it seems to have fixed itself over night....thank you for the suggestion though, if I it happens again I will make sure to contact him. Looking around the forums it seems some other people have had this same issue but nobody seems to have really followed up on it, which makes me think the issue has fixed itself for them too.

Once again, thanks a bunch for your help, I really appreciate it!
