How do I get it back? I've searched the forum and found a LOT of threads on how to silence the camera or change the sound. I have the opposite problem. I do not want to take stealth pictures and am missing the feedback that the camera has taken a picture. It was working fine until recently and then it suddenly stopped. A few things have happened recently that might have been the cause:
  • The SD card died. I used to have the camera saving pictures there, but I no longer get the option to select the destination. It always goes to DCIM in MyDocs.
  • I moved a few games to /opt to save some rootfs space. Only the games, as far as I know, but...
  • I ran apt-get upgrade and got a new hildon-desktop. This is an armel version even though I am on CSSU-thumb.

The files /usr/share/sounds/camera_snd_title_x.wav are there (for x=1, 2 and 3). They all belong to root and have 644 permission. When I navigate to them with Filebox and click, Media Player opens and plays them. But the camera does not.

You sure you didn't do the N9QTweak tweak that silences the shutter?

@pichlo,

Check in settings - profiles. What setting do you have for "System sounds" (off/level1/level2). I believe that with "off" the shutter is silent. I have it to level1 and it does make a sound.

Thanks reinob, but that wasn't it. The setting was at level1. I changed it to off and then back to level1 and level2 just to see if it recovers, but it did not.
