Is there any search and/or indexer app/addon/plugin/whatever available for N900, which would allow you to search quickly for documents and other files (in folders you specify, so that system files and folders are not included)?

Use the 'find' command?

Why a joke? Seems to find what I'm looking for, and offers both Open and Open With options.
Now, indexing contents of TXT, PDF, DOC etc. files is probably another matter...

yes?
try to open a funded folder with filemeneger
it will open the filemeneger with your home directory
in the "open with option" the filebox and the hamsterfiller even did not show up.

True about folders. But this search is still better than the one in iOS, believe it or not....
