It great that the N9 alarm can still function when the device is off. But why does it sometimes turn itself on to sound the alarm and at other times it just sounds the alarm without turning on? Is there any way to control this behaviour? I've determined that it is nothing to do with the battery charge. I would prefer not to have it turn itself on.

I'm interested in this too.
I don't use it when the n9 is off simply because it's not stable on my phone.
I never had it sound the alarm when off, only that it turns on and sound the alarm.
The problem with my phone is that it sometimes doesn't sound at all, only turn on, so it's totally unusable for me.
Perhaps it's caused because i use a custom mp3 file?

Similar issue here:
I have a reoccuring timer for getting up. If I switch it off when going to sleep, the N9 will start up at alarm time but waits at the password screen (not PIN). When I wake up overslept (and angry) and type in the code the N9 starts to play the alarm (no custom sound). I think the issue started with PR 1.2. Unfortunately I cannot tell you if it got fixed with PR 1.3 since I cannot get it without bigger efforts.

Has anyone investigated if this behaviour is linked to unrestricted system-ui?

I recently flashed my phone and have not installed anything Non store invluding N9QTweak. Will report back what stock current behavior is.

Edit:
Kept 10 alarms 1 min apart and switched off phone.
Hitting Snooze/Stop/Power button stops the alarm
Volume up/down mutes
Phone did not turn on, nor did it ask whether it should turn on unlike the older Nokias would

Battery fully charged, PR 1.3, Standby screen disabled.
I think one of the things that QTweak alters is the alarm UI to inclyde a larger snooze button, can someone with that mod see how it behaves?

No, I've got a brand new N9 with PR1.2. The clock was ok like on every olders nokia even if the phone was off.

But, I've putted a password (and increased security), have installed Home Screen (and numbers of apps....) and the N9 is now unable to play alarm, it always tries to run/to switch on, but with no sound. After some times (A hour?), it switch off alone....
After getting the PR1.3, it's always "broken".....

Regards,

Olivier
