When you guys say opening via terminal you DON'T MEAN AS ROOT, or?
Ah that's my bad...I've been opening it via SSH hence it was being opened as root...

Running on the phone via x-term keeps all settings...

If I figure it out, I will report here.

Well, I just got an strace of opera crashing. I sent it to myself per e-mail to read it more comfortably.

Add.: didn't get very far. Opera opens 3 threads, and the 2nd seems to be the one provoking the SIGSEGV, during an epoll_wait() call, but nothing seems suspicious, so far.

If I have the time, I'll try running it with the debugger, in case I can get more detailed information.

Worked fine for me until yesterday. I have been using it only over EDGE/GPRS for a week prior to today as I was in a remote area. Today on wifi i get the new Instacrash(tm)...
Back on 11.5 now, works fine.

Hi all,

I've just become aware of the crasher and I'm looking into it, unfortunately I have a rather busy schedule right now so it'll probably take a few days to resolve.

But /opera doesn't exist, the binary is in /opt.

If this really works, then it could be that hildon-desktop executes opera via its dbus service instead of just executing the program, and this (perhaps) makes it work (like it works when executed from xterm).

This is very mysterious. I'll try what you've said (put some bogus command in the Exec line) and see if I get the same result as you.

I wonder, how it's even launching?
This isn't fixing the issue, obviously.
