Are you really sure that you don't want to use ssh?
Between coffee shops and lousy WEP encryption, it seems there are plenty of ways to loose your password over a clear text protocol. If it were me, I'd ssh to a system that is on the same trusted network as my telnet host, and go from there.

Yes, I REALLY want to use telnet.. I have several hundred switches and routers and AP's that do telnet only. I just need something to get in and look at switches when I am inside my different facilities, not to be used on the road.. On the road I use SSH to get to my home stuff...

a) why not ssh to a host, and telnet from that host to your devices?
b) I would, in fact, also like a real working telnet on the NIT platform ... not for logging into hosts, but for connectivity trouble shooting (telnet to port 25 of my mail server, to be sure that it's accepting connections from my NIT, etc.). Telnet is an amazingly useful program.

If I wanted to connect to MOOs or MUDs from my internet tablet, would the above mentioned telnet.deb be the way to go? Is there something better?
