This may just be my experiance, but with my n900 running at 1ghz, I was able to run Runescape(via OpenJDK) in "safe mode"(software rendered) at ~2fps. On a 1ghz pentium with 512mb of ram and Ubuntu 10.10 and the same settings, I get around 6fps.

This seems to mean that the ARM9 processor's around 1/3 as "powerful" as an equivalent x86 processor - it may differ depending on compiled options etc. however.

This could mean that games like nexuiz, even if ported, wouldn't work very well even OC'd.

Impossible to port as it's not open source.

How about C Dogs, OpenLieroX and OpenBor.
OpenBor would be alot of fun since there are a ton of games created for it. These games were ported to n900-like devices (dingo, pandora etc...) so it shouldn't be too hard.

Heck, most games from here could be ported without too much work...

... and many of them are. Tuxrace is even ported from Maemo to OpenPandora, although a bit wrong based on forum comments. It doesn't help either that common practice seems to be breaking GPL licence terms by not providing source code (ok, I didn't download the files and check if sources magically appeared somewhere)

I agree many are, I was just pointing out that if someone want a list of games to easily port that would be a great place to start.

Anybody up for organizing a "sprint" of porting games? make a vote on relevant games based on ease of port and relevance to device (f.e., FPS is not really possible on the n900). And setup a week or two per game to port.

Not really a game as such, but I would like to see the Platinum Arts Sandbox Gamemaker Cube2 engine running on the N900.

Sandbox Game maker

I have been playing with this games creator recently and it is sooooo simple yet can push some very nice graphics too.

The engine is aimed as an educational tool for both kids and adults alike and is so very easy to pick up that it could spawn a whole bunch of user created games for Maemo.

If anyone can get the games maker to run even if there are performance issues, I would like to see it.

Did Secret Maryo Chronicles ever get ported? It looks like a great game. Open Sonic the Hedgehog would be another good game. Would anyone consider porting these games?

Not interested in games that are half story... if I want to watch a story, I'll put in a movie. I'm in it for gameplay. Long plotline breaks make me want to scream.

My list, from the top of my head (I'm sure I'll think of more when I'm awake):
> Paradroid
> Boulderdash
> Descent D2X

Yeah, the last one would definitely require a bluetooth double-analog-stick to play properly... but the first two could be made to play well with a stylus. All of 'em should be quite playable on the N900's hardware.

Oh - an implementation of Robotron would be cool to play with a stylus (yeah, I now there isn't an open-source one, yet).

Happy New Year!
