Hi. I am here to present you an idea. Im almost an expert handling my nokia n9, but im almost new to programming and all that stuff. Yet, i tend to learn really fast. Thats why i am here to ask the community a question. Do you think it could be really really that difficult to port shazam or soundhound to meego, or not exactly porting, but creating an app that uses the same algorhytm and database. We already have eeryie. But it doesnt work well. I respect the one who created it, it must be difficult. But we need a better one. It is kind of the only app I really miss in meego, apart from a document editor. So i ask you your sincere opinion. Im not promising anything, dont call me vapourware, but if i find the right motivation and dev partners, we could start a project and work hard. Whats do you think sincerely? Im willing to participate, but as i told before, i must start learning first.
Cause, as we have seen with wazapp, apkenv, instago, and many other useful apps that didnt exist at first, nothing is really impossible.

First of all, I respect your gesture here and can only hope for the best for you... Now for building an app that uses Shazam's database and detection algorithms, the only thing you can do (since it's not open source) is to reverse engineer the app most probably the one from Android)... That's what the wazapp team initially did.. That's really the hardest part in the development really.. After that it really shouldn't be hard to build the app with Qt.

How do you plan to obtain the database they're using?

Should be harder than getting the algo... At the end one's not really useful without the other.

Take a look at this.
http://www.redcode.nl/blog/2010/06/c...hazam-in-java/
http://hobbiesvirtuales.wordpress.co...nidos-en-java/

After all i know java and meego are not related at all, but my point is he got the code, he created an algorhytm that succesfully works, it can be far difficult getting it and compile it into a deb file, but i can sense it coming more and more closer. And BTW, thanks a lot. I really appreciate your comments, the nice ones and the doubtful ones too, all are welcome

I'm working on it and it's almost ready to release.
Stay tuned. Just a bit more database fine tuning and app is operational.
Already recognizises every song.
It's not based on Shazam because it sucks.
A better backend is in place.

Soo, this can be taken "officiall" now? You already hinted of this in another tread some time ago. I am cheering you to succeed on this Knobtviker

A good alternative that I have been using so far is using www.midomi.com with firefox. You can use the website directly to rrecognice a song you are hearing.

This is official, I got all server requests done. Just some Sqlite to finish.
Yes, Midomi is the backend. Basically a SoundHound port for N9
I'll try and port to other platforms in time.
But please keep this inside this forum for now. Cheers!
