@ Penquinbait - I think you've included all the shortcuts I can think of... my only question is why make these all preset? Why not have the user just set up whatever shortcut they want (it's a really simple process)? Second - I can't for the life of me get the right-click shell script to assign to a button. It will run from xterm but I can't get it to run from a hotkey? I've been trying to use Regional & Accessibility -> Input Actions to set up the hotkey. What am I doing wrong? Or what are you doing instead?

Also, my husband (he's a code monkey) kinda rewrote the script he claims he made it "betterr" - I can send you the revised copy if you're interested - but I totally understand if you just want to stick with yours (if it 'aint broke don't fix it kinda thing).

As for Dubwise's suggestions - I agree that a link to Battery-Status should be included. I think I already sent you one when I sent you all those .desktop files.

However, I'm not sure about the KAlarm/alarm daemon thing. There's something buggy in KAlarm. It took me a week to get KAlarm to quit loading automatically at startup - I kept getting seg11 faults everytime I tried to change the KAlarm settings. I wanted to turn it off because since I use KOrganizer anyways and I was trying to minimize extraneous memory usage - I figured that KAlarm was expendable (since I can just set an alarm in KOrganizer or use EggTimer for a quicky alarm). I could quit KAlarm after it loaded at startup, but that's a PITA. Finally one day after trying repeatedly trying to disable automatic loading of KAlarm - it just stopped loading- I have absolutely no idea why. My Kalender and To-do alarms all still work. So maybe Dubwise is on to something with the alarm daemon - once it's activated once it will keep running.

One thing I'd love to see fixed (if possible of course) is Menu Editor. I've currently got all of my Maemo shortcuts on my desktop but only because Menu Editor won't actually save any shortcuts I make. Menu Editor says that it's saving - I get no error messages or anything - but when I close the editor and open KMenu again - the link I made is no where to be found. I would be nice unclutter my desktop some - especially since I don't use Maemo anymore.

And have you found any way to fix the jpeg problem? I'm just curious if you've come acrossed any fix for it yet.

While we're on the subject of settings/fixes... Has anybody come up with settings for either smplayer or mplayer to play movies without skipping and lagging in KDE. I can play my movies in Maemo with mplayer no problem but from xterm in KDE mplayer video just lags and stops/starts, same with smplayer. These are all divx files.

Yes, I'm advocating for the daemon, not KAlarm.
KAlarm crashes if you look at it funny.
Running KAlarm to get the daemon launched once,
and then battling to kill KAlarm is a little counterintuitive.

Has the Calendar and alarms been working well for you?
That's actually the main thing I want out of KDE.
I'm still trying to stop carrying my Tungsten C for DateBook5,
and nothing in Maemo is working well enough yet.

Could your video problems be swap usage?
Perhaps without KDE running you're not hitting the swap file.

Please tell me what I should do to Kalarm if I need to make a change?

PCQ is installed via boot from SD, so she does not have swap.img, but either way swap is independant of KDE, your swap is what it is regardless of what KDE does.

I am setting up under keyboard shortcuts, commands, you select it from the menu,

Sure send it along, It was just a hack and slash, got something cleaner, I'll take a look

ALL THE LINKS you sent me will be included, along with a Hildon Menu Section, I aslo created a link in the Hildon menu section to /usr/share/applications/hildon so you can get to the hildon shorcuts as you add new apps,

I want to use battery-status, but I can't get python to install? I would like to make some custom scripts for battery-ststus, for use with KDE to notify if power is 50% and 30% ? maybe make it configurable

I think this is permissions problem, see other post

What if you run the mplayer directly under KDE does it work better?

Yeah - Kalendar and To-do with reminder alarms (visual and audio) have been working great for me The only problem I've had at all is that if I set up a "Repeat" in my reminders, I can't find a way register my aknowledgement of the alarm and make it stop going off every 2 mins. So instead - I just quit making my reminders with repeats.

All of this is of course with the understanding that I use KDE exclusively as my desktop (I seldom even go into Maemo anymore) and I keep KOrganizer docked in the System Tray and I don't turn my N810 off either (I just lock the screen). I haven't checked it out officially, but I'm almost certain an alarm set in KDE will not go off once you logout of KDE, let alone turn the device off. This is the main difference I can see between the Nokia ITs and Palms - there is really no "hibernation/wake up".

Not sure what you're asking.

I understand that.
But without the memory used by KDE,
she may not be hitting the swap file.
On my basic Maemo, I don't use one.

I keep KOrganizer docked in the System Tray
I've just wiped mine, prepping for dual boot, so I can't check,
but I believe the alarms work if KO's not running.
Not if KDE's not running, of course.
I never shut mine off, either. No reason to.

There's almost as much hibernation/wakeup as Palm has.
Turning off a Palm isn't very far from locking the screen on an IT.
Everything still runs.

This is probably pretty dumb but I can't seem to get a wallpaper to display on the desktop. I can change the colors but that's it.. Maybe I missed something.. If so, i apologize.

png images can be used for background, but not
jpegs. I would guess that part of kde was compiled without
the jpeg Use Flag (at least, that's what we'd say using
gentoo linux).

But it's easy to convert jpg to png ... (inside kde, krita
can do it right on your tablet!)

Great, should I email it or just post it?

ALL THE LINKS you sent me will be included, along with a Hildon Menu Section, I aslo created a link in the Hildon menu section to /usr/share/applications/hildon so you can get to the hildon shorcuts as you add new apps,

Wow that Hildon Menu is a brilliant idea What problems are you having with Python install? I'd love to have battery-status give notifications and/or be more configurable - As it is I have to just remember to check it every so often, but hey I'm not complaining at least there is some way to check battery levels at all. Any improvements would be much appreciated

Kalarm loads fine, I did not actually try to create an alarm? I am looking for guidance as to what I can do to see the problem, or fix the problem?

The problem is not with KAlarm loading really, it more with the fact that once I loaded it the one time, I had a really hard time getting it to stop automatically loading whenever I started KDE. Dubwise was saying that you need to start KAlarm at least once inorder to get the Alarm Daemon to start loading at startup and you need the Alarm Daemon to get KOrganizer alarms to work. So we actually need the Alarm Daemon to load without having to launch KAlarm first. Do that help?

This will only be fixed by a recompile, and I have know Idea how to fix it

Thanks for the info. The libraries are all there so it's weird that it won't work. Ah well, it's easy enough to change to pngs - I was just trying to be lazy

What if you run the mplayer directly under KDE does it work better?

I've tried running mplayer under KDE from xterm and by pointing smplayer to use mplayer for video. I get an error messages from Konsole: "Your system is too SLOW to play this!" then there is a long list of possible reasons and fixes. I'm not sure how else I would use mplayer under KDE If I use the Maemo GMPlauncher (MPlayer) for the same video it works, so I was thinking that it was making some adjustments to cache, speed etc. All in all this is not a big deal - I don't really watch that much video, just more of a would-be-cool-if-it-worked kinda thing.
