While you were away, freemangordon started the cssu-thumb project, where many programs are being recompiled using gcc 4.7.x and the thumb2 instruction set (which now runs stable thanks to the linker in >= 4.6.x plus kernel-power >= 51r1).

I have not personally installed cssu-thumb because of the cssu part (which still doesn't quite convince me), but hearing the reports of people who have tried it makes me think that I should try it at least on one of my 3 N900s

The idea with thumb2 is that the programs take less space, which in itself is a blessing for the N900's limited rootfs. But less space also means that the code segments take less space in memory, meaning a bit less RAM is used, and *that* is a blessing for the N900 (obviously most RAM is taken up by dynamically allocated blocks, which will take the same space regardless of the instruction set).

Since AFAIR you were already using CSSU on your N900 (hope you still have it), you should be OK with it.

Anyway, even if you opt for the N9, enjoy it
Thanks, I did not know about that, but to be honest: I currently don't own an N900 anymore. On the other hand this might change, depends on how good the N9 will be for me...

I can't believe we're 22 posts in and no one has even mentioned ProfileMatic!?

There are maybe five things keeping me tied to my N9:

ProfileMatic (Automate the s***t out of everything)
Billboard (I guess this has been introduced enough)
Speaker Auto Switcher (can't understand why every phone doesn't have this functionality)
myExplorer (the only good SMB client that I know of)
EasyList (just paste a comma delimited list for a quick graphical list)

There are loads of other useful things available but the ones mentioned above combined with the Swipe UI makes the N9 still the best device for me.

Thanks. Especially ProfileMatic looks really interesting for me

One question: does anybody know, whether Privoxy runs on the N9? I don't need Tor, but I would need Privoxy. On my last Android device I used this mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1281738 and I would want that again, this really saves some juice on an Amoled-Screen.

My-MeeGo shows more than 2,000 softwares, more than My-Maemo (with 1,645). But the figures are higher for both : with more than 5 thousand MeeGo softwares in Nokia Store (many are simple interfaces to sites), with more Maemo softwares from the repositories.

If you need office editors (Open/LibreOffice, Abiword, Gnumeric, etc), then install Easy Debian Harmattan. It works with Inception (simple hack to "open" Nokia N9 almost as a N900) or Open Mode Kernel.

Thx, I guess one could use EasyDebian to run privoxy on the N9?

There is an easy way to set most ad servers to localhost inside the hosts config file and block almost all ads.

Thanks, but I dont talk about adblocking...

I simply want to "blacken" my screen to save power on my Amoled screen. Have already tested this over months on Android and this works wonders. Having white on black saves some juice...

There is a bookmarklet for the opera mobile browser

--- edit
Does not work so good. You have to click again on the bookmarklet for every new website you are going to.
