I bought N9 second-hand a while ago and then I realized that the previous owner might track me down with this track&protect-app (t&p). I wasn't able to register my own account with this device so I'm pretty sure that the previous owner still holds his account. If I'm not able to get that t&p-account from him, I pondered that the least I can do is to blacklist N9 front camera. Just to get that comfort that no one is watching me over the Internet.

I have previously blacklisted modules in desktop-pc, but this handheld device looks a bit harder.

blacklist is of course in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf but how can I find out which module/driver is the front camera?

If you have any better solutions in mind feel free to share those..

... and I actually asked from the previous owner about this t&p-app but got no answer.

I thought if you reflash the device completely that won't still be enabled

isn't this track&protect-app a some kind of SIM-card app.. so basicly you can't flash it? There's not so much information available on this subject.

Nah the N9 can remove everything with a flash just do a full rootfs+emmc flash with --erase-user-data=secure flag and you are set

Refer to the flashing guide: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693

I read those instructions carefully through and I almost got it. What does those -f and -F flags mean?

So basicly I just run these lines:

flasher -f -F main.bin --erase-user-data=secure
flasher -f -F main.bin -F emmc.bin --flash-only=mmc

on command line and it should be fine? All preinstalled apps will disappear? especially that (this time) vicious track&protect-app?

OK. I managed to flash my device with those instructions. Track&Protect-app still appears to be installed. I mean preinstalled. I chose the version with no maps...

Is this app preinstalled in all versions available? Have you succeeded in deleting this app?

Sorry to interrupt but, does the T&P app support front camera shooting in the N9? I didn't see this option in the webpage

I have no idea I switched to N9 from Android and it has a same kind of app called Cerberus. I assumed that this T&P is nearly the same. I didn't get a chance to register T&P so I don't know what is it capable of...

Sorry.. this topic went off-track. But as I was searching more instructions I remember reading that flashing resets device settings (REALLY ) so device can't be tracked from previously registered T&P account. If anyone could confirm this piece of information I would be more than happy

T&P is a pre-installed app; if you did a full flash with erasing data you are safe. However if you want to uninstall it look at N9QTweak; it has an option to uninstall pre-installed apps; don't do it without reading how N9QT does it as the meta package surely depends on T&P and an incorrect method would require a reflash...

Also FWIW around 3 months back there was a thread with a few people confirming that T&P had dropped support for the N9 hence they couldn't track down their stolen device; search for it and you'll feel better
