Apologies for the dodgy webcam photo, but it seems the facing of my N9 has chipped off to reveal the metal underneath. There's also a slight gap between the USB door-cover and the metal, the internals of the phone must be lurking underneath.

I had noticed that particular area of the housing was chipping away ever so slightly for a while, but I dropped the phone the other day and that must of been enough.

Has anyone also experienced problems with the chassis chipping?

Is it worth springing for a new facing and repairing it myself? How tricky is this?

You are sad for that?

I've that same reveal of metal near the headphones especially since my USB-port cover came off ~3months from me buying the phone. Most people have their port covers out since a long time so don't be sad

Replacement port covers are pretty cheap actually but with the frequent plugging in/out of the usb cable the chances of it coming off are pretty high due to not taking super cautious care

Meh, my USB and SIM door edges are chipping away too.

6 month old N9. Too bad Nokia didn't test the fit and tolerances properly.

Hurrian, it's not that doors that are the problem, it's the actual casing near the headphones, as I believe thedead1440 was referring to. But yes, you're right, Nokia should've done a better job testing.

I have the same issue. I learned how to open the little stupid door.
They never breake on any of my phones.
But then I noticed that part got crushed a little.

I'd say that is a huge stress zone and had to be reinforced.

I guess if you look at N9 as a '70 Italian sports car today - it's normal to be rusty and cut out on fuel sometimes.

My guess probably the edge of USB cable charger or headphones jack make this scratch when you're not cautious when plugging it in.
mine is chipping away too around volume rocker.
well, its 15 months old anyway and sometimes my son make it as a toy.

Something has gone terribly wrong with the N9 construction. Especially at the top of the device and at the edges.

the materials are peeling off

edit: That is why I think the white N9 has better durability in the test of time.

Had the same problem... It's normal... It happens with almost every N9 I've had.
