Hi,
After an extensive search, I have procured a new n900, which I have been lusting over for more than a year. I went with the phone because of its open source nature and the ability to run full blown linux systems.

I am having few troubles.
App manager gets stuck at "installing application please wait" dialogue with any app from start. I read that I need to create a directory called opt and few other things, but for that too, I need the root access.
So I am not able to install any software through application manager.
apt-get update shows:
Could not open lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13 permission denied)
- Most probably which indicates app manager was quit within a download.
For this problem itself I am not able to install rootsh either.
Please guide me how to fix this.
P.S. extras repository is already added, and indicates my version is fremantle 1.3.
