What if I told you I'm using Profilematic to change display color temperature to 3500K during night with a simple timed rule?
It does require creating a new setting in mce.ini but it can be set properly via dbus?
Interested in integrating or should I make a separate app?
If you integrate, correct sunrise and sunset times are imperative.

I don't really know what's 3500K but I guess it's something to do with colors and brightness etc. I know I've seen some people complaining the LPS is too bright in night so if helps in that it'd probably be useful.

I could integrate such action, but it depends what the solution is like... mce.ini sounds always like a red flag , so would it require incepting/openmode, how hackish the solution, is there danger of bricking etc.? And of course on my time limits too.

Integrating sunrise and sunset times to a new condition is too much at the moment for my free time, but it could be done with an external script that sends dbus messages to ProfileMatic, like slarti has shown with his alert condition modification.

No Incepyion needed. Not much of a hack, just adding two lines in the file on installation, removing two lines on uninstall.
There are ready made sun calculations.
The rest is DBUS at work.

Which app needs a restart even after the device reboots?

I haven't seen it having such an issue; could you point me to the post describing it?

It should be a daemon so are you sure it doesn't take like 2-3mins to start-up instead of requiring a manual start-up? The way Harmattan works is system services start up first then 3rd party apps' daemons start in alphabetical order so it may take 2-3mins for this process after every boot-up...
