Another way to get Wikipedia in Sdictionary format (not for the weak of heart) is to download a wiki dump and convert it using tools from http://sdict.com/rsc/files/ptksdict-1.2.1.tar.gz (also see instructions at http://sdict.com/en/versions.php?version=unix_ptk).

While I'd like to have monthly-updated copies, I'm too faint-hearted to do it myself, and don't have time. I'll stick with the versions sdict publishes

How about Wikipedia selection for schools? It's on in sdict format, but rather as local html files which you can access through your web browser, but is edited, rather good (imho), and is not too big.

see http://schools-wikipedia.org/

This is interesting, thanks for the link. This may work for some people. On the downside , finding information becomes a manual process and a lot of storage is wasted. Version with small images is ~1.1 Gb unpacked, but it takes ~1.9 Gb on 8Gb card. I also had problems copying this many small files (~85k) - Ubuntu failed with an I/O error and I wasn't patient enough to wait until Mac OS X craps out, ended up copying zip to the card and unpacking it there.

Thanks, I have downloaded all the sdict files & reassembled them - they work wonderfully!

If anyone else wants these files: I have created a torrent to ease downloading. Just open http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3997207/...01-04_wiki.dct
with your favorite bittorrent client (e.g. µtorrent) - I'll try to keep seeding it for at least a month.

Addition: here's the torrent as an attachment in case you can't reach the pirate bay.
Attached Files
File Type: zip enwiki-2007-01-04_wiki.dct.zip (10.9 KB, 163 views)

Holy crap, I just finished downloading the wikipedia sdict files and they work great on my N810! Thank you, gsagers, VERY MUCH for taking the time to upload those files to megaupload, I had the same problem downloading the original ones, but yours worked great! Also thanks to bart for the torrent version, I probably would have down loaded that instead if I had bothered to read the whole thread, hehe..

It's too awesome to be able to say that I have a full, unabridged, (albeit without pictures or formatting) snapshot of the English wikipedia AND a full dictionary too, all right on this itty-bitty tablet that can fit in my pocket! I think this will come in very handy in some of my college classes! Can't wait to show my friends.

Well....I have been downloading the torrent for over 11 hours and am only 43% complete. Looks like it's going to be awhile.

Yes it's slow - sorry, I only have limited upstream bandwidth. Once there are a few more seeds running, things should speed up.

I'm hopping on to the torrent. I reckon I should be able to seed it for a good time after I finish downloading.
