Hello,

in the past few days the touchscreen of my n810 had a very strange behavior: for more than a a day it did not respond to any 'touch' except for the menu on the home page. No way of getting to the other menus to try to fix it. Only the keyboard worked but offered limited navigation on the tablet. I switched off, took away the battery, nothing.

After a day it started to heal itself and little by little I was able to regain control the screen. Through this healing period the response to the tapping was erratic: drop down menus did not work, tapping was not precise, etc.

Finally things continued to improve and finally, after calibration, the touchscreen works at 95% of its normal precision level (which is not excellent IMHO).

Some hints:

- I was abroad in a country with 220 V
- I changed a card (2Gb to 4GB), without any application running. I was able to perform the same operation with the same card after this.

Anyone had this problem before?

Antonio

Note: I have searched the forum before and found posts mainly about the N800.

Could it be humidity? I had similar problems during another trip to Latin America.

Somebody recently posted about touchscreen issues caused by a screen protector.
The self-healing sounds like electronics drying out from a spill or condensation.
Either of those possibly relate?

Thanks dubwise,

I think you may be right: this is maybe due to high humidity levels in Panama City. That's a pity because I travel quite often to Central and South America (mostly for work).

My wife had some problems with her Treo in the Dominican Republic and thought they had to do with humidity.

I had the screen protector on for almost a month without any issue. And it is still there and the tablet works fine.

Any other guess as to the causes for such malfunctioning?

I have similar problems except that mine doesn't heal... I have bought N810 in US and brought her in Europe where I'm using it with AC-4E charger (actually the same that ships with german version of N810). I hope the problem is not related to charger (the label said "compatible with all Nokia phones with 2mm connector") but it is strange anyway and prevents from enjoying my gadget in everyday life...

Now I don't even need to travel to get the hardware bug: in these days the weather here in New Jersey is bringing us a lot of humidity and some heat, and it becomes nealry impossible to control the touchscreen of the N810.

I believe it is a defect of my unit. Hope the warranty covers this problem and that it did not expire in the meantime (I bought the N810 in December).

Others have or are experiencing this problem?

Regards,
Antonio

I followed this thread because I am having a 'touch' issue but it seems to be with the html on the ITT site when using my N810. In other words, it appears that the links of the ITT site do not work with the usual 'double-tap' I can get the himdon menu and 'open link' but that's a pain.

Anyone else or is this just me?

Well I experienced some inconsistency with the html navigation too (not linked to the issue mentioned before): tapping on links does not always work properly.

I noticed that especially when navigating certain sites (gmail, in all fashions, and ITT Forums, in mobile version): the pages won't open (it says "connecting" in the bottom bar and takes for ever). In the same conditions other web sites (Nytimes, repubblica.it), heavy sites with images and other stuff, are downloaded pretty fast.

Maybe it depends on the server? But for Gmail as well?

Hi all,

I called Nokia on this issue. They were very helpful on the phone and asked that I ship it back with Fedex or UPS. Which I did (at my expense).

The n810 returned a few days later nicely wrapped with a new screen and a package slip with information on what had been done. The note also thanked for the opportunity to repair the device and expressed hope that their service would exceed my expectations.

I must say that it did. Not only does the new screen work flawlessly (I have been using it for 4-5 days now in the same weather conditions, which caused the screen to become unresponsive), but frankly I did not expect to receive the n810 so quickly. Kudos!
