I have used the GNU stable version 22.1 with no X (command line only).
It works very well, and you can further customize the environment with things like ispell, dict funtionality, mail, custom modes, etc.
Of course, an external keyboard is highly recommended.
I wondered if posting the emacs port online would be useful to the community.
If so, where? Is garage.maemo.org the place to host such things? It's a .deb file, I could eventually host it on my homepage, but my provider imposes a transfer limit of 100 Mb daily and 3 gb monthly that might be too stringent if demand is higher than expected, considering that the emacs package is a 30 Mb download.
