I'm not very handy when it comes to my tablet (770 obviously). Can someone point me in the direction for dummy proof instructions on installing the 2007HE on my 770 or PM said instructions?

Directions can be found by searching. You must download the flasher software on the Nokia site as well as the OS image and it should install fine.

OK...let me be more specific. I didn't understand anything you just said. That is how far out of the loop I am.

what does this statement mean?

If you get a "Permission denied" error then chmod +x flasher-2.0 or chmod +x flasher-3.0 to make the flasher tool executable. You may also need root permissions, run command with sudo or su to root.

and also, what does it mean the meamo site says to "execute as root" (on my PC)?

Hi,

1. Download the firmware from http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_770.php

2. Just download the "Software updater" from nokia ( http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410232 )

3. Install it and follow the instructions. Be careful and connect your 770 directly with the computer (no usb-hub)

4. wait

5. you have os2007he on your 770

is your PC that you connect your 770 to running Windows, Linux, or Mac OS?
I actually tried mine from both Linux (Ubuntu) and from Windows XP, and found XP much easier...

For windows:

1) download new firmware image
2) install Microsoft .NET framework 2 or greater (if you don't already have it. available from "Windows update" as an optional download. You can see if you already have it installed by looking in the "Add/Remove Programs" list for "Microsoft .NET Framework", and it should have a version next to it.)
2) install Nokia software updater for windows (http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410232)
3) run the Nokia Software Updater, and it will run you through with a set of prompts. At some point you select the firmware image you downloaded in step 1.

Erm might sound daft but there are 4 versions to download, which one do i use and before one of the mods on here kindly says we're posting in the wrong section we're new to this and wer're not programmers, everybody on here assumes we have some kind of experience using linux. If I knew it woulld be this much hassle I'll go back to using windows devices.

Re: to my last posting I really think there should be a step by step guide to various jobs such as installing programmes, upgrading flash, updating to internet tablet os 2007, that sort of thing.
