Hi,

I would like to use my laptop as bt virtual keoboard for my Nokia Tablet and cell phones.
Laptop runs MS Windows OS.
Already contacted BlueSoleil, developer of bt driver for MS Win OS.
Tommorrow start more tests but need your opinion if any such windows (non Linux) HIC application is already on a market .
There is a hci client for Linux and hci client for Windows but doesn't work with Nokia.

that is an interesting idea, but I wonder how many people would want it? I mean if you are going to have your notebook open anyway, why not just use it?
(not meant to be a discouragement, just wondering aloud)

If you can get bluetooth pan working, perhaps synergy will function well. Not sure it will compile well but since the unit is running on X... synergy also works on linux, windows and macs.

A bit more complicated route perhaps but FWIW:

Thanks.
Just installed windows version, started, info window opened
without any chance to close it.
Killed process.
Deleted application.
To many problems.
High risk application.

I thought this was a neat idea too and was hoping that with a bit BT Python fu I could make it happen. I wrote to Albert Huang, the developer of PyBluez, about the idea. This is what he said:

"Implementing the HID specification is a nightmare, I do not recommend
it. However, you also do not need PyBluez to control your nokia
device. I am not an expert on HID, so you will find better advice by
searching the bluez mailing lists and wiki. If you want to hook into
the keyboard events, then use a higher level layer like those
provided by X."

I find that Putty + WinSCP on my PC and ssh on the tablet meets most of my needs for a keyboard. You should be able to configure your lap-top to connect directly to your tablet over wifi. WinSCP is really nice, recommended.

I have not tried it, but somebody has already mentioned Synergy. Again, you would need (I think) a wifi connection. The issue with Synergy is seeing the mouse pointer on the tablet so that you know where to type. I recall somebody saying they had solved this problem (search...) but then Amazon had the iGo keyboards on special at $29.99 so I bought one of those for the occasions when I can't use Putty.

Another quite viable alternative is to use a VNC server on your tablet and a VNC client on your laptop.

Final idea if you have an old 770 available:

Hi,

I just compiled synergy for armel, I must say that it runs flawlessly My keyboard can be shared with my N810, even my mouse, BUT... I can't see the mouse pointer at the N810 screen.

Some one knows how I can show the mouse pointer in Hildon Desktop?

Regards,

Taguapire.

EDIT - 1: Some issues with RETURN key found, but you can use ENTER key

While I haven't tried it myself, perhaps this may help?

It's for the 770 but perhaps it'll work on the n810 as well?

Also, it seems that there's another thread on synergy already, my bad for not catching it.

Synergy works, VNC too, which has the pleasant side effect of showing your N8x0 screen big on the laptop screen (which is open anyhow to get at the keyboard.

/me shakes head. Darius is just too funny.

Some body knows why I can't do click to programs (3rd one from top), icon from my VNC Client, I already tried all VNC clients with the same result. And I getting the same behavior with the keyboard when I use synergy return key doesn't work everywhere.

Regards,

Taguapire.
