Gmail IMAP may work correctly now. I recently saw this article here.
It may be related to the problems on the IT.

LOL Claws has worked flawlessly for me with IMAP. It's feature rich and is easy to use. All it needs is a bit more pub IMO.

After having the imap Gmail problem on my tablet I searched the forms and found some were still having trouble with this.
To fix this you can download the headers correctly but when trying to view the emails it gets stuck in an endless loop.
Here are the account settings that worked for me

Basically what I had to do was for account name I placed my Email address and a second time in the name box. Lastly I set the outgoing settings to ssl and vola! it was able to download messages. Unable to send messages yet but I was at least able to read them.
