I just published instructionson how to use the wonderful USB host mode on the device without need to solder anything, use command line, or anything too difficult. All you need is USB F2F adaptor.

Why is this USBControl better than the existing ways, e.g. using mara's scripts and simple-launcher, or using osso-statusbar-cpu? I haven't tried it, as I don't have my adapter yet, but I'm just wondering what improvements this offers?

This seems a lot simpler than using Mara's script considering I don't ever want to open up the command line.

My first post.

This is fantastic! I now have a 40 GB Seagate hard drive working perfectly on my N800 through a powered USB hub. I got my N800 around Dec.1 and have been reading the forums daily since I got it. There is a treasure trove of information here........thanks.

Hi konttori,

i did not have any luck on my N810. Neither of my memorysticks (128 MB / 4GB FAT32) are recognized (Control-LED on Stick goes not on).

When i put usb host on, leave the application and start it again, there is always otg activated. I looked up the file /sys/devices/platform/musb_hdrc/mode and there was only b_idle written in it (also after activating host without leaving the app).

I even installed becomeroot just in case this would be necessary for any kind of write permission but no luck.

You have any ideas ?

Thanks MiBi

This would be fantastic if not for its being packaged along w/ ukmp. Please release an independent USBcontrol.

It's just an python standalone app. If you really just want the USBControl, extract the files for usb control.
Personally, I think UKMP is great but I miss that feature where you draw in the corner with the stylus.

Download the ukmp deb, log on as root and type dpkg -x <name of ukmp deb> <destination dir>

The extracted dir has the structure of the file system in it, so just cd into the right places and move the right files. (In particular, the usbcontrol.py & usbcontrol.desktop) amd chmod +x the .py

Personally, I recommend & use UKMP.
If the op doesn't like this post, i'll remove it.
