Yeah I agree with you 100%, I think that's an upstream issue though.

Come to think of it, where's the OpenDocument stuff in the 2.5.x builds? Is that a plugin?

Yes, and I'm not sure how to package it yet - it might need to be in a separate package. In AbiWord SVN, it's in the module abiword-plugins. (EDIT: I know it's been done, but I think at the time it was pretty hacky. This is a good enhancement request to file, and a good way for someone to help... I am not so great with debian packaging.)

For fancy things (ToC, math, etc) - aka documents in progress - you should always use the native format of the program. For sharing documents, then you export to an interchange format: RTF, ODT, or PDF. At least that's what I've learned working with this sort of stuff for a while Don't worry, save as a file format will be there. You can hack around this by putting a blank RTF file on your tablet, then when you want a new doc, open it and do a save-as, which will preserve the format.

Version +pre20080130+test1 now released: update not has a postinst script that does a bunch of things, including asking where you want to put the menu item, but only on the initial install (not on upgrades) - thanks lrdn!

OK, well, how's it going with everyone? I've seen a few bugs come in - mostly hangs when doing things, which is kind of odd. When you file bugs, please set the component to Front End - Maemo unless you know that the bug exists on desktop installations of Abi as well. I'm currently testing a patch to re-enable the build on 2007 - we'll see if it works, I had to figure out a bit of M4 and Autoconf to do it, which was a new experience

Maybe it's me but the install procedure seems not too clear. I went to your maemo garage page expecting 'abiword...deb'. Instead I see 'enchant', libwmf, libwv with no indication what it has to do with abiword. I tried to install the latest 'enchant' and 'libwmf' but the application manager both gives a "incompatible application package" error. I have a n800 with os2008 (RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin).

If you look at the rest of the thread, you'll see that right now, because of the instability of the package, the beta is private at this time. Send me a PM if you're willing to test. Once we have released, I plan on putting AbiWord and all the dependencies in Maemo Extras, which means a single-click install will work perfectly.

You bet - I can't wait either! I just want to make sure that when it's public, it's polished enough that the contributors get praise rather than flames.

If you promise not to flame and to file bugs instead, you can still volunteer to beta test - just pm me, it's relatively easy to install. I'll need 2007 testers soon.

I'm so jazzed about the prospect of AbiWord on Chinook that I finally going to buy a Bluetooth keyboard. Thanks for all the effort and I'll be checking everyday for a sign of AbiWord life on the extras repository.

Thanks for all the effort.

All beta testers will be receiving an PM explaining how to access the beta of the Bora build (ITOS 2007). For those of you testing that are having trouble installing I have added a readme.txt file to the file location explaining the process of installing - basically libwmf has two binary packages that must be installed in order, and since we aren't using a repository, each package must be installed manually in the correct order.

Ifyou are using Bora and would like to help test, please message me. I can test this build too, but it's late here and I have to find and charge my N800 first. The more eyes, the better!
