If that's the only way to get it working, the package should be moved off ApplicationCatalog and on to the WIP page.

Actually that is incorrect, please refer to
http://maemo.org/platform/docs/howto...n_package.html
You should run as install, that is correct, but the command line is wrong.
This is the correct syntax
dpkg --force-not-root --root=/var/lib/install --install package.deb
So this would not have broken my installer
