I've had my n800 for about a week. There have been some problems powering up, but nothing requiring a 3 minute wait.

Everything was pretty much going swimmingly until yesterday when I noticed that it hadn't gotten charged after I unplugged it. I tried plugging it back it - nothing. Tried plugging into different outlets - nothing. I tried powering off for 3 minutes - no effect. I tried pulling the battery out for 10+ minutes - no effect. I tried blowing out the cord and receptor with compressed air - nothing. No "Charging" dialog. The battery icon continuing to get lower.

As the remaining charge got low, I got desperate enough to try freezing (nothing) and re-flashing with os2008 (nothing).

Some additional data points:
  • jiggling the power cord (when it was working) would often result in a fresh "Charging" notification, so the hardware connection may be the problem
  • I installed powerlaunch yesterday, but if that had been the problem, I would have expected a re-flash to resolve the issue
  • I was using yesterday while attending my daughter's ice skating practice (it was cold)

Anyone have any ideas? At this point, I'm pretty sure I need to return it, but I figured I ask before I have to go without for a while.

Sounds like a hardware problem. If you have a voltmeter, you should test the output of the charger to determine if it's the charger or the jack on N800 that's at fault. If it was the charger, I probably wouldn't bother exchanging it since that's easy to fix a broken wire (and I have spare 5v chargers that I could adapt if necessary). If it was the N800, I'd exchange it rather than fooling around with the jack.

Thanks DJames1 - it was the power adapter.

Not having a voltmeter handy, I took it to Radio Shack. A sales associate tried an igo a69 adapter and I was pleasantly surprised to see the "Charging" message pop up immediately (I really though the n800 was at fault based on how quickly it went from a tad flaky to outright failure). I grabbed an adapter along with the a69 tip and I have a fully charged n800 again.

I'll see what I can do with the wire some other time - I won't mind having two power adapters.

Thanks again!

I had the same problem. I bought a second charger...no dice. I just returned it to Amazon. The second one works perfectly.

I wouldn't try flashing it when I'm worried b/c the battery is going low... You could brick it (WRT USB-flashing) that way.

Oh man, I wish I would've read this before sending my N800 back to Buy.com...

Blast!
