I have had Maeflight sitting on my phone for years.
Realizing that the Maemo5 version will never work again I tried to uninstall with dpkg, it tries to grab a file from www.visvantha.ca a closed site. Just for fun I left the N900 on a charger for a few hours and it just keeps trying to grab the unavaliable file rather than uninstalling. The package doesn't even appear in fapman.
I dont like to do force uninstalls when there is a bettery way to avoid breaking things, any ideas?.

I backed up from a backupmenu image and ended up with maeflight on my N900.
After trying to again dpkg -r maeflight
I did a quick check for updates with Application Manager it now showed up as an upgradeable package, being curious I let it try.
Obviously its attempt to grab a file from the old maeflight API jammed it and I don't know how long it will take for app manager to time out, apt never did.
EIPI, this was a great app while you had a working API but that has been almost a year or two, is there a trick to uninstall it?
(edit)Very strange, I let it go for a while then finally needed the phone so I rebooted.
I got a message below the blue Nokia
"initializing software updates do not interrupt..."
then a shutdown and boot to normal
WTF is that?

The problem with removing Maeflight (assuming you installed it recently - unsure what the situation is if you've installed it while it was working) isn't so much that the uninstall step causes a hang, it's more that it can't find a couple of files during the remove process and returns 1, which makes apt-get or dpkg think that the uninstall failed, and causes it to try to undo the uninstall by rerunning the postinstall script, which causes this issue. Found a workaround for this:

Run this first:

touch /opt/maeflight/.maeflight_tools
touch /opt/maeflight/a.pyc

before running apt-get remove maeflight.

(Side note: The N9 version works under Meecolay, but it has the rotation bug)

Sorry about the Maemo5 MaeFlight issues. A few things have caused me to not be able to address this properly. Thank you aeon_light for documenting a workaround.

The Harmattan version works fine, and does not have the same issue as the unsupported Fremantle version.
