Because changing the screen would require, again, modifications to the hardware board.
And software libraries to be rewritten. Would you pay extra?
Device casing has a limited amount of desing space to the pcb.
YDK what&where this project aims?
To make N/Neo900 fully utilized pleasant to use and hackable. Right?
I personally like resistive over capasitive especially in winter.
