Off-topic but no doubt of interest, here's what Canonical's been up to lately...
http://developer.ubuntu.com/2013/10/...r-smartphones/
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...u-1310-release
Still quite a bit further behind overall, but everything just seems more slickly tied together, at least that's the "impression".
I'm not speaking in terms of the UX or sw-stack*, more-so in terms of how everything's being coordinated/communicated between them <-> usrs/devs as they move ahead.
But it could be just pure marketing rubbish....

*although there's aspects there that are appealing, plus some that very much aren't

I'm running it since a day back on nexus and it's nothing you want to use for daily still uber beta and only for devs and anthusiasts. Would love if sailfish was released in a simular way as Ubuntu or tizen. Two different approaches but both are in the hands of real users.

True, but maybe not as hard as comparing prices is to you.

Comparing european VAT prices with tax free yankee prices is pointless. Thats not even taking into account all other extra costs in Europe. Nexus 5 is guaranteed to be way over 400 euros in Europe. Even the old Nexus 4 16gb is more expensive than Jolla.

And for your aggressive style. I can inform you that their is tax in us as well. But it's just a few additional dollars.

Yes but that tax isn't inluded in the advertised price.

Remove 24% VAT from Jolla price and its about 320 euros. Thats already below Nexus price. Then there's all the other extra retail costs in Europe; longer warranties, better consumer protection laws, higher minium wages in retail jobs, etc etc.

Jolla could propably sell their phone in USA with same profit margins as in Europe with something like 299 euros.

I think the delay of the Phone With 6 month is mainly because the browser experience isn't good enough. But I thin we will get our preorder queue numbers any day now and after that we need a jolla shipment thread.

It's been well substantiated (seem you've missed it again) why we most likely had "a" delay*, through the pointing to revealing articles in this thread.

*if you could honestly call it that, when it was always wildly optimistic

Yes, I would call it that from summer to winter. But the delay is not a bad thing. In fact I think we will se another delay as well. The current target is to release before end of the year. But from the lack of info and promotion plus the video with the slow browser I would say that Christmas is too optimistic. So it's back to summer again, unless you are in the first batch as most of us here. We will hopefully get it before summer if we choose to.

But during that time. Both Tizen and Ubuntu(may 2014) will be released and it might be tempting for some jolla buyers. So while the delay is good for the product it's not always good for the market.

talk about delay, funny is jolla has not said it will be avaible in eu before endof 2013. Only heard finland, but I guess people will start bitching when they see no device in eu before christmas.

But the 80 engineers for sure work like crazy to get device out so I personally will not get angry but sad ofcourse
