Handful, I have a n800 and the card is a 16GB SDHC Class 6 card with approx 13GB of music on it so I was not overly bothered with the scan time - I kind of expected it. I
Wow! Jeremy you have a real big card there. Do you believe we actually dont have one of this =) it's so hard to find those in brazil : / last time I was abroad I brought with my money one 8 gigabyte, but earning in reals sucks to pay in euros =) and to ask the company takes MONTHS. but yes... we will try like always improve this time... or at least avoid it in the beginning.. but the device flash is slow : /

As far as the embedded images, what is the specification/size/format that canola tuning is looking for?
Well we need 2 images : 300x300 and 150x150. If it is 300x 300 I think it saves time and space...

Also how does canola tuning come up with the album art i.e. does it try and use the embedded album art in the mp3 file, then the folder and if that does not exist does it then try to look up the album on the web? Just curious as I would like to improve its success rate with the album art as when they are populated it looks great!
It first looks for the embedded, then for the file inside the folder and last it tries to download it.
So in the end, what we want to do now is the last step : to make you able to choose from the downloaded album arts AND even pick from filesytem.

Also if it looks at the folder for cover art, all of the folders had a folder.jpg file which was stored there by media monkey (media organizing app), does this also have to be a particular size - I had to use images from different sources so some were probably larger than others which may have caused problems...
if they are 300x300 better =) and faster =)

Finally if all else fails and I have to populate the cover art manually within C2, where is the cover art stored, is there a particular size and format that is required (sorry if you answered this one before)?
No problem .. is there in the home/user/.canola/cover
In a "artists/album" structure..(take care with accents, and spaces) and with a 300x300 and 150x150 format.

you will notice that are several covers in some folders, it's because we alreay have the code for chosing the cover ... = )

@Rjdourdry :
Are the albums cover depletng your internal memory?
if you are running out of space, you can create a symbolic link for your card.
But I think this is the case of placing a option to choose the device to store.

Thanks Marcelo, could the option to save the media db and covers to a different location other than internal memory be added at some point... my cover art is not optimised but it looks like my .canola dir is taking up approx 14mb's

I have a problem with installing canola2.
I'm making apt-get -f install canola2 and it's always freezing in:
Unpacking canola2 (from .../canola2_2.0.0~beta2-maemo1_all.deb) ...

it stoped there long time ago and doesn't move anywhere.
I've tried to brake it and begin again but it didn`t help.

what`s wrong?

Hi guys, we need to make a post with some "tips" about the basics of reporting errors =) then we can avoid the same question.

Also to some people to see there like a known issues so we avoid new threads with the same questions... I am not an admin thus I cannot move threads and etc. (I don't worry too much is just to help people find things easier)

So let see if I can help :

@loughmillermedia

I don't think there's a "right' way of organizing your collection =) goes with your way of organizing your stuff, or sometimes you don't care about it because your player does it for you on the desktop (like windows media player.. or even itunes).

But if you want some tips (the website, has a section called : using canola..) that has some tips on organizing and even some free software to help you with that.

The basic thing, would be to have a folder called "Music" on the root of you media card... and then folder by artist name... and then by album name. Some software does that automatically for you.

After that you could take some time.. but it worths it.. to do the fix of your music's TAGs using also some tagging software (Picard is a good option and it's free)

And then just throw it back on your card... start canola, set the "Folders" for each content and go!

* then send us the bugs =)

@Mad Deer :
Unm, difficult to say, but It would be wise to try removing it first now..
apt-get -f remove canola2
then all the libraries..
and then trying to install again after a reboot to kill the daemons.

You can look at the correct commands in the other threads...

Hi Dburr...
Your problems seems to be the dependencie problem.. where you have some components that are different version from what they should be.
You should do the same as listed in other threads.
Of course, please always tell us what device and software version do you have.. sometimes they are hardware specific... like the 770 with HE -> is really not that good...

Jeremy to save your space now.. you can do a link from the a folder in the mmc / sd to the internal canola cover folder. It will work the same way =)

This is actually what a visual option will do.
For canola will always be /home/user/.canola/cover
but for you can be anywhere.. just create a link

=)

Basically I have two problems. 1) The cover arts deplete my device memory. 2) The device freezes durng cover art download so I never get to the end without numrous reboots.

I am a novice at programming these linux devices so I will have to wait till I get some time and going over the threads. If anyone can simplify it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Rjoudrey :

this is basic tutorial :

http://uw713doc.sco.com/en/FD_files/...to_a_file.html

Then what you would do is something llike :

mkdir -p /media/mmc2/.canola/covers/
ln -s /home/user/.canola/covers/ /media/mmc2/.canola/covers/

Just make sure you have the =) mmc2 or mmc1 =)
