Just wondering if there are any contact managers for Maemo, other than the built in one, and GPE Contacts. I'm looking for something that integrates with other Maemo apps, and allows read/write access to all vCard fields.

Try the OpenedHand's Pimlico suite or Kartoteka.

Pimlico looks pretty nice, would you say it is more stable than the GPE Suite?

Thanks, Pimlico looks like exactly what I'm after. Took a little digging to find the repositories, will try them out later tonight.

I tried Pimlico's contact manager, but was disappointed to discover that it will only import one vCard at a time... I really need to import all of my contacts at once. They have this in the bug list, but have it marked as an "enhancement" and it has been open since July '07. I managed to import all of my contacts into GPE contacts, but GPE seems fairly buggy. I have managed to hang it several times. I think I can make it work if I am careful to avoid things which make it hang....

You could import them to Gmail and then use the built in Google Talk account... and your contacts will be imported

I have tried contacts from pimlico, it is not that bad but it is still limitted on the field front.

Why can't we have something as simple as a repository of vcard files (representing our contacts) and have the "contact manager"é display them and modify them ? I wrote such a beast for GNU Emacs and it supports almost all vcard RFC fields.

Once again, for a device like the tablet, it is a pity that I get the feeling that the OS is "unfinished".

You might also check out Gene Cash's PIM apps

After banging my head against the single vcard import in (seems like) all of the various contacts apps, I finally gave up and imported them into Gene's Info On Tap Database. It isn't pretty, but it works to get all of the various fields I wanted.

1 Exported Palm contacts to CSV
2 Cleaned up in Excel
3 Exported as HTML table
4 Imported into Info On Tap

Good Luck
