Midnight Commander

I was wondering if it was available and if it was usable...

tried it and it was good to have a look around at things...

a bit weird
but it always is..



I installed it as root
apt-get install mc

but it runs better as user ~$

not sure if that was the right way to do it ... but it's an old favorite, so just had to try it. It was around for years before I ever tried it.. and that was in 1999.

Ive been after mc. What repo is it in?

It's a bit clunky..
the keyboard makes it a bit strange to use..

just something for me to have a look around with until I can get KDE going.

If you have the N810, mc works with the keyboard. CTL-i will go page down, ALT-i will go page up. (You need to know that the ALT key is the ESC key, which is a button to the left of the screen directly below the menu button.) Similarly, ESC 1 is F1, ESC 2 is F2, etc. You should be able to use mc without the stylus.

I didn't quite get that right. Ctl-i is tab. Ctl-v is page down. Alt-v is page up.
