I would suggest trying claws-mail. It's bit lighter weight than tbird and it runs *really* fast on the n810. I'm not sure if it does pop however...All my mail accts use imap.

claws consistently crashes on me. i don't know if it's because i have too many messages in my imap account or what. when i first launch it, everything is fine. it downloads my mail and shows it and i can view it. however, if after that i click "send & receive", the cpu goes 100% for about 10 seconds and then it crashes. this happens even with no other programs running and with virtual memory on and off. i've tried nuking its settings/prefs and starting over but that didn't help either. any suggestions?

It's good for me...

It's faster than GMail AJAX, and as fast as basic html, with better integration. I have 2929 e-mails in my inbox. YMMV, of course, but it works about as well as anything is likely to.

My inbox rarely gets above 100 messages since I have server side filtering for my IMAP acct. I've seen issues with Treos where the mail app will crash if the inbox is over a certain size...but that's running palmOS and not Linux..

I've all kind of folders, some with 100 messages and some with more than 20000 (one had more than 30000 before I purged it). Modest didn't work at all with the biggest ones and struggled with the "normal" ones. Claws works (albeit slowly) with full threading (last time I looked modest didn't support threading).

Well, I have server side filtering too, but I like to see all my folders, not just the inbox

modest works fine, for me, with large (thousands of messages) folders. What it doesn't do well for me is nested folders.
