I'm having a problem with my 770 not turning on. I think the power button is broken, as pressing (and holding) it when the thing is on no longer brings up the 'power off' menu either. Pressing the power button to turn on - nothing happens, no white screen, nothing. Anyone else? I think it may need returning; I'm going on holiday at the weekend so I reckon I'll just try to avoid switching off and return it when I get back ;-)

maybe this is a stupid question, but how do you know you can not turn it off, if it wont turn on, or the reverse?

am I missing something?

I'm guessing you've already tried to remove the battery?

Jeff- yes, it was actually when I was removing the battery to check the country of manufacture that I noticed it - I tried to use the power button to turn it off first but nothing doing. So I removed the battery anyway and then noticed it wouldn't turn back on.

penguinbait - above probably explains it; it's easier to turn something off than on ;-)

I have actually got it back on, I think simply through multiple pressing of the button (for around five minutes.) Pressing button now, even multiple times, fails to bring up the 'turn off' menu.

This is a very recent development, off button was working earlier in the week. Current plan (as I am going away on holiday) is to avoid turning it off until I get back and return it then (it is rare that I turn it off.) But I will of course recharge fully etc. and see if this helps. Can't reflash obviously if the on button no longer works!

Edit: One of the main reasons this annoys me is that it means I can't use my spare battery on the transatlantic flight and thus get two movies out of the thing. I guess I am resigned to whatever crap they are showing this month.

I occasionally have had a similar problem (I posted about it a couple of weeks ago). Sometimes I can not get the 770 to turn on. Sometimes multiple button presses works. Other times I have to just leave it alone for an hour, then it starts right up. I don't think it is the button itself. It almost seems as if the tablet just locks up and fails to respond. I have tried removing the battery, then reinserting and trying to boot, but that has no effect. It only happens to me on rare occasions now, and my hope is that the new firmware will make this strange behavior go away.
