I don't even pretend to know or understand the divisive compulsions ongoing in our community currently...
Everyone seems to have very valid stances, compelling arguments, and I can commiserate with just about everyone and their positions (or at least in greater or lesser part ....some of their positions).
Unfortunately with such arguments however valid...and everyone unyielding ...

I found a trailer for a good film...
the symbolic parallel is perfect....

It's about the last remnants of humanity stuck together on a (perpetual motion induced) train...all fighting or defending (for all the right reasons too...).... to control it...and direct the fate of the passengers.

Trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcGdmh0_toY

Good film...
called "Snowpiercer"

Frankly it should be redone and called "Maemopiercer"
It would be virtually the same plot.

All-in-all...Bloody stupid ...

An implosion no one here really really wants...
nor no one wishes to be the harbinger of...
but all the upset...
all the quarrels...
right or wrong...
is just pushing it....
itching to happen.

The ONLY thing I do know as an absolute certainty is that...
I think that having rules and procedures and charts and points of order and all the bare-bones of running this place and the structure of order is important.
But I'm beginning to believe a moral and ethical set of rules...or guidelines ...of proper adult...responsible behaviour in interacting with one another here ...is something that should be contemplated...
not simply expected as a "given"...because just "expecting" everyone to get along and be courteous and be polite and kind ...it sure isn't "a working field model" goin' on here.
I'm not sure how to write up something like that..
but I do know ...

1-Everybody's got to cut everybody else some slack here.

2-Everybody messes up...however..Everybody has done and does great...

3-Everybody has been correctly and incorrectly interpreted and misinterpreted .

4-Everybody's got to stop bringing up dusty quotes as ammo....that don't reflect the (present) person ....and the intrinsic changing and growing nature of a human being and the allowance for them to "do better" in the now.

5-I know it isn't easy at times...but for goodness sake ....we're friends here...Who likes their friends talking so poorly towards one another? Whether justified...whether right or wrong...Who feels good by it?

There are better ways of getting along.
But it has got to start somewhere...and from all quarters ...the upset and arguing and fighting really must stop...else ...yes many more will step down ...or leave...or the place will fall apart...or...
hmm. how much worse could it get than that?

Well my erratic voice of sanity is done .

Dave and to all my good friends whom I chit-chat with here in this thread ...
I see looming the potential for one real ugly countdown I do not wish to see happen...

Spot on. They will argue eatchother to death. Could you explain with one line. What's the issue? I have no clue, their posts are way to long and to much battledrumtrolling.

Frankly, for the average user/member the governance issues have been unintelligible for some while. Why? Because the effort required to stay fully informed is huge (various threads here - long posts, IRC - long logs). And as much as I treasure my n900, it is not worth my time.

Nice post endsormeans. The N900 was, in some respects, the eight wonder of the world and Nokia pulling the plug on the N950 was devastating. Some really great accomplishments have resulted from folks efforts here. But, as far as I can tell, unless you embrace android or ios, there is currently no hardware out there that developers can see the fruition of their work and be enjoyed by a large enough user base. I hope Maemo can sort itself out, reinvent itself, or whatever so that it continues in some substantial form as I have learned quite a bit about linux from many of the bright and helpful folks here.

I hope the end result is not a countdown to a shutdown.

On the bright side. About an hour to go!

Hehehe
ya and the 5th, 6th and 7th wonders of the device world were the n770, n800 and n810
hm....I believe that will change concerning devel on the neo900...that will be quite fun...wheee. open vistas await!
Dave and Handaxe ...hmmm...I've been following to a greater or lesser extent the probs and ya it can at times be befuddling.

And I know I'm not wearing rose-colour-glasses....
trying to expect a wonderland of impossible happiness and everyone holding hands and singing Kumbaya ...
but I have no doubt whatsoever that everyone could and should be treating each other better...

If people can't....
Then another certainty I do know is...
inevitably this place will implode....
regardless of any perfect cog-and-gear working model of rules and protocols we have.

And if that happens ...if we have people fighting and arguing who is going to pilot the ship and who gets the stateroom and who gets to sit at the captain's table at dinner...
Bickering ....
WHILE the ship is going down...
I don't care if those people are right or wrong.
It says volumes of both or multiple said parties ....

Lastly my own personal certainty ...my line in the sand is ...I will not be interested in being a part of any future community involving said parties...whatsoever..
..I may be odd, wacky, unhinged...hell even downright crazy...but I'm no idiot..the same thing will occur.

Simply...inevitably ...boiled down to a single common denominator ...
It's about the individual's investment ...
It isn't about buying an n800 or n9 or n900...or whatever and expecting service or support...or something...
it's not just about a device line,
the devel,
the testing, how much can be done ...etc...
it isn't just that..
it's investing in a very powerful.... intangible.... "ethic" ...a belief...
....as a consequence it's also about investing in time....
in "a" future...
in a community...
And if any community of individuals proves beyond-a-shadow....
that they have no future...
then no one will invest their time...

on a lighter note...ya mscion...speaking of time......not long now...can't wait...

Samsung's Galaxy Note Edge has a multipurpose panel on its curved right edge.

Of course we always need a countdown! But it can be delayed a bit.
If, for general use the camera is really better, and 64GB version is available, significantly better screen (without sacrificing battery life), a little more pep, and nicer construction (aluminum frame) I might go for it. The TW stuff is pretty old though. Also, the frame on my GN3 does have a crack in it ($250 to fix) so it might be time to upgrade.

One thing I do not like is the Edge. I'd rather have a side launcher that does all the things found on the Edge's edge. Plus the asymmetry of the design in portrait would drive me nuts.

EDIT: Well, I'm having second thoughts about the Edge. Could be a useful feature. Although it would be nice if it was symmetrical

Get it. It looks like a much better buy than note lll.

Or wait for the new iPhone. Or wait even longer for uPhone or jPhone ll.

@Samsung Why no keyboard devices, Samsung? You got the position and money to afford a wild card like that. Bring it ASAP. Note 4 with slide out keyboard would get an Ace in my book.
