Been reading a bit up on this but cannot find the progress on an approx date when the Neo can be ready to ship?

these days im looking far and wide after a new phone, but....
EVERY android i look at i get board at very fast, it is NICE to have a BIG screen and BIG RES but i just cannot get my self to always have to have an APP to do things when so far with my N900 i made various things for it directly and i LOVE having that option, so i guess there are NO substitute for me other then the Neo900.

Would like a bigger screen but as for now this is the first step, then later maybe the team can make the ultimate thing and make a N910 or something, some 4"+ with a bigger keyboard and 720p+ res.

Still for me there has been no other Phone/device that has brought so much joy and usability as my N900.

about release date: we're inmidst the make of proto_V2 which will take 3..4 months total unless things speed up. This time span needed is longer than we originally expected and partially caused by scheduling our job at GDC who got other jobs to accomplish as well, and nevertheless Nik does an awesome job at delivering excellent work in a shorter time than announced. Again a big 'Thanks!' here for this.
Anyway: Proto_V2 in January. Then another 2..4 months on top for proto_V3. (all this assuming we get lots of support with testing/validating the prototypes from community) And when we're lucky we can start ordering phase then and start "mass" production after 4 weeks for collecting orders and money. This would start Q2/2015 the earliest then, which is actually in line with our previously announced date Q4/2014 + roundabout 6 months we lost in reorganization. When however we run into new obstacles, this could cause new delays, as usual. The Q2/15 is the earliest possible date.
Again sorry for the delays the reorg caused. I already admitted we failed to perform optimal on this particular detail. And sorry for keeping the incorrect Q4 for quite some time too long, we didn't manage to edit the webpage.

cheers
jOERG

HUGE +1 to that.
Not sure what hurdles would have to be leapt over to achieve it.
But on closer exam..back in the day...both the n8x0 and neo(is going to run...haven't looked since to see if that has changed) ran with toppoly variant screens...so ...who knows...perhaps it would be possible to have in future a neo910 with a 4.1" screen (I've already thrown down 200eu for my neo...I'd pull out my spleen with my thumbs if I absolutely had to...just to throw down the money in a heartbeat for a 4.1" neo-goldilocks )

@dr_frost_dk:
Have a look at the upcomming Pyra [1] as well!
It's designed as a handheld gaming console but is planned to have the same modem as the Neo900 as an option and it will most likely have a 1280x720 screen.

joerg_rw - good to know an approx time so thank you on that one .

I still find it weird that now about 4 years since i got my N900 there is STILL NOTHING that peaks my interest, find it really boring that NO big company takes any "risks" like old nokia, ALL new phones, be it Apple or Android variants, really does not have anything new or awesome going for them, just bigger screens, curved screens and the ability to change shape
I was looking at GSMarena and there have not been a QWERTY phone in YEARS!!!, now i know touch is good now a days but i HATE when you use it you loose up to 50% of the screen.

So far im all in on the Neo900, $ wise is better so ill be saving some up at the moment and donating the first 100Euro next month.

endsormeans - one thing we could have to begin with is a screen of same size with 720p res, THIS should be possible with the CRAZY screens that's available now a days, BUT NONE are the N900 size so they will have to be made and considering the relative low numbers of N900/Neo900 this could be costly to produce, but in my mind still worth it.

sulu - the Pyra "looks" sweet, nice to see the future development of the Pandora, but lacks phone and i prefer the form factor of the N900

Oh and sorry for the absence lately, just haven’t had the time, really also need to get my N900 completely up to date....

Yeah...love the specs...love to play with one...perhaps next year I'll get one...
but for a phone..it is a bit of a beast ...more so than the n800 and n900 combined...break mah wrist holding that to my head
I'd look like a boom-box throwback with it perched on my shoulder.

And yep my good mr dr frost sir...1000x agree...there is abso-smurfly nothing out there that compares to the neo...let alone the n900.
Bizarre really....fortune favours the crazy and all...and no one has been crazy enough to actually leave the droid/ios/wp herd in a loooonnnggg time. (even though os-wise 'buntu, tizen, firefox are hovering out there)
Options are thin to none...gta02/04-n900-pandora/ pyra- neo900...'bout it.
each is different in it's own way...which is at least some small blessing.

Pyra looks good. For a palmtop resp gaming console. However aiui it's not designed for long standby with inbound calls waking it up, and it has no ringer or anything like that either, no earpiece and no convenient signalling at all to the outside when clamshell closed. In short it might be able to call somebody from your Pyra, but it's definitely not a phone

I've read that the Pandora lasts about one week in standby and about a day in what desktop users call an "office scenario".
If the Pyra reaches similar results it would be pretty close to an N900.

What's a ringer, other than some method to play a sound on an incomming call? I guess that would be possible to implement in SW.

True. But there are tons of headsets out there.

Very good point! I guess I should try to talk the devs into implementing an additional LED.
edit: The Pyra will have a configurable backlit logo in its display cover, so notifications on incomming/missed calls/messages should be possible:

Well, the Neo900 would certainly be the better phone.
But frankly I'm not looking for a phone. I'm looking for a "netbook" that fits into my jacket pocket. Phoning is a necessary but minor task it needs to accomplish.
The Neo900 seems like a good candidate for that task but the Pyra looks even better (due to higher screen resolution and more complete keyboard).
Personally I see myself using the Pyra in winter (when I wear a jacket) and the Neo900 in summer (when I don't wear a jacket and the device needs to fit in my jeans pocket).

I have to agree, Pandora *is* designed for a (very) long standby.
I own two and I didn't timed them but they didn't empty quickly at all.
the battery is a huge (as wide as the device itself) 4000 mAh.

I easily keep my pandoras in standby mode for a week.

I'm looking forward to know how long a Neo900 and a Pyra will be able to last in standby/use.
