Does anyone know if it's possible to reduce the requirement for a six-digit password when locking the device? I would be quite happy to use any length of password; three digits would be fine. I'm hoping that there is a configuration file which can be changed in the system somewhere....

Me too...I just want a short password to keep the kids out :-)
