Really? thats so sad

It seemed like pre-Elop Nokia was a nice place to work, and now that the guy is gone... well, i don't blame them.

Just wondering, is there some actual tablet that is using that same HW configuration?

Yes, as long as it says "Nokia" or something else "not-Amazonish" on the device, and it otherwice conformed to the Google rules & specifications. (amended here by the last chapter in this mail below...)

There's no such things as "rules" here really, it is not like we are talking about the laws of some country!
Google (and any other businesses alike) are free to define their relationships to other businesses case by case. Even as it would seem to "violate" somebody's business. Remember, there's nothing here that matters except what gets written under the line at the end of the fiscal year.

Now seriously, does that matter at all?

Nystrom confirmed that they decided in May to come back to consumer branch. If you look into their recent activities, you'll find several clues that they're up to something.

Regarding MeeGo, well, it's hardly unlikely that anything would happen soon, but knowing Nokia, at one point they wpuld part from Android and start searching their own way.

Pure tablet,
unless they goofed and left an open PCIe slot for a SIM carrier.

As far as hacking past the bootloader,
I will not rehash what I already said about the horrors of
INTEL Chit-On-a-Ship systems and how wildly unworkable they are.
(I will note that many Chinese tablet touts seem to avoid
the use of the term Bay Trail in their advertisements)

Cap that with a
  • locked Android bootloader
    (unlock that then you spend weeks trying to load stuff, hopelessly)
  • a single USB 2.0 port (?= means they could not afford 3.0 =?)
    - a single port is an utterly frakwitted idea worse than no USB port at all
  • and a complete lack of phone system connectivity
    (Nada, zip, zilch, empty, zero GPRS/LTE)
(what exactly were they hallucinating on, really ?)
and you have a tablet
which will be bought by the dozens
and filling landfills by appointment.
If this is designed by new Nokia trainees and none of the old hands,
it would be almost mandatory they grease a BROADCOM
WIFI+BLUETOOTH SDIO interface into the backside,
just to make matters officially impossible.

The fact that @nokia on Twitter totally ignored me asking about the lockdown, tells me, yes, I am pretty sure it is locked down. This also seems like a fact when you know just a little bit about Intel and the existing devices based on their chip(py-****)-sets.
No sireyco ain't getting one.

If the Nokia n1 had an active digitizer then it would be a perfect replacement for my Galaxy Note 8, but it doesn't. The specs show it with a 64 bit CPU, which means it would probably have support for 64 bit efi and thus might be able to run linux. The main issue is still the powervr GPU and the lack of x86 linux drivers. Maybe libhybris could be used as a work around.
