Hey, he's your friend-- did you ask him for a tutorial?

A Twonkymedia uPnP server is like Windows Media Center. Well not exactly, but the idea is the same. You could probably control Twonkymedia from it and have it transcode and send to the n800 audio, video, pictures, etc..

There's alot of uPnP software, for example if your running Windows you can try Tversity.

He sort of gets this gleam in his eye and then starts Linuxbabbling.

Whoooosh, right over my head.

Then he looks so distressed that I don't immediately understand the LinuxGlee

Much easier to just ask a sane person 'what means, please?'

I figure with the huge amounts of posters, a couple of sane ones will help me out

Then I'll whip out *my* N800 and show him my pretty background pictures.

Irreco works with a server that has an IR blaster connected.

The N800 has a 3.5mm jack, which is perfect for an IR blaster if you want to use it as a self-contained remote.

Wait so if I wanted to use it as an IR remote I would have to have a computer hooked up to the VCRs, DVD players, TV? I knew it had to have an IR transmitter but I thought that was all I would need. (well there goes my plan to control TVs with my n800 lol).

No, you'd have a computer with an IR blaster.

Plugging an IR blaster into USB or 3.5mm is also an option, though.

Isn't a 3.5 mm jack just an audio jack though? How would it receive signals and then convert them into instructions for whatever device?

You plug an IR LED into it and broadcast codes. The N800 doesn't need to receive anything.
