That explains a bit, I guess.
that gets purged on installing any package, see the README

copied the man gzs from package to /usr/man and it works. As user as well as devel-su.
what README?

i tried copying some manpages in /usr/man and /usr/manX, but i get the same as before, it's like if the manpages are there but man can't read them. permissions on every manpage are rw-r--r-- (644) and i have groff-base installed, am i missing something?

it's interesting that if i do
Code:
 echo test manpage > test
and then
Code:
 man ./test
i still get an empty manpage with "Manual page $filename line ?/? (END)"
it's pretty frustrating

But, also try to run 'mandb'
I downloaded manpages_3.65 (also dev), extracted with dpkg -x and copied to /usr/man.
Now I have much more man pages but simple commands like cp or ls are not included? Some hint where to download a more 'complete set'?

mandb is only for creating cache index, right? Not for downloading?

Sure

~ $ ldd /usr/bin/man
libgdbm.so.3 => /usr/lib/libgdbm.so.3 (0x3aabc000)
libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x41408000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0x41180000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x41030000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.3 (0x41000000)

FWIW I have the exact same output of ldd.
And I have open mode kernel, too.

Man works and shows (whatever man pages are in /usr/man or /usr/share/man).

Sorry, no idea. Never tried inception, went directly into open mode.

But I guess it should not harm (nevertheless I would remove it prior).

Dont use both inception and open mode (aegis patched) together.
Also, I doubt that either of those are the issue of the problem.

i also thought so, since it has nothing to do with it (and 'less' works) but a try is not going to harm me lol, and i were already planning to use plain open mode kernel anyway
