Oh yes, the bl**dy terrorists. They are to blame for everything. Convenient, heh? Now that Cold War is over, thank God for Al-Quaeda, Taliban, ISIS or whoever comes next. We need a scarecrow like we need bread and salt. Well, I don't buy it and have a few things to say to that:
  • I'd rather take my chances of dying in a terrorist attack than having my liberties violated 24/7.
  • Our beloved governments are telling us that giving out our civil rights is necessary to avoid the bad guys taking them. As far as I am concerned, it is the devil or the belzebub. If I am losing my liberty either way, then the bad guy have already won. The only difference is the name.
  • 2001 was the worst year ever in terms of terrorism. Yet even in that year, the proportion of the US population that died to terrorism was an order of magnitude smaller than the proportion that died of flu. But flu is boring, isn't it? You can't use that to justify the Patriot Act.
  • If the general population is so dumb as to not see that, then I suppose we all deserve to live in a police state.

I was born and bred behind the iron curtain and I know first-hand what a totality is. Where the UK is now is getting dangerously close. I would even say it is already there*). Most people may not see it yet because they are perhaps not used to seeing the warning signs but to me, they are painfully clear. Sadly, I do not see a way out

*) Remember the "Je suis Charlie" affair of a few weeks ago? You may not be aware that a few UK newsagents who were selling said magazine had a police visit and were asked to provide a list of customers buying that magazine. All in the name of "protecting public peace".

All this happening ...all this crap coming down the pipe so quickly regardless of Power involved or nation or corp attacked... isn't just chance or just because global powers can...

Things are tightening up for a reason.
Oh, but it is because they can! They always wanted to have the absolute control. In the 1980s it was opening letters with steam, now they have SIM keys and HDD rootkits. Technology has changed, the end result remains the same.

And the reason? Sure there is one! "Protecting you" is not it.

@pichlo already voiced out my thoughts exactly.
It all boils down to a need of a convenient enemy, nothing more.

As for the so called war on terrorism; the powers-that-be are not so dumb they wouldn't know the only real way to end terrorism activities. That's the simple thing to do, to educate, share wealth and respect thru whole world. They just ignore this to keep "an enemy" that is so convenient.

Yes I agree with you guys...
polarization makes control easier.
And yes instigating and creating a foe, a problem, an enemy, fomenting and engineering it makes the control easier.
I believe that too. Except it can escape control, run away and become a monster of epic proportions instead of something to control.
ex. -Russia's occu. of Afgan. resulted in the the U.S. helping the locals to fight ..funding them with weapons and training...It helped. And intervening definitely helped create, if not nudge bin laden and al qaeda into becoming what they were and what they would end up doing...and so on.
Sure the Powers that be can try to manipulate and spin and create a problem for a variety of reasons...but it is also obvious such creations get out of their control. They may have some control over the stimulus over initiating and the beginning of a tactic...but it is clear they are not omniscient and the beast changes, escapes or turns on them or becomes an even bigger threat than anticipated. The Powers can't control every variable existing and their permutations.
As well I do not belive for an instant that the Powers that be are simply just trying to be nice guys either. I am not naive.
Even good and benign gov't have divisions of it secretly or overtly doing harm. None are without mud or blood on their robes.

This is interesting

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...48a_story.html

I think, in the future, that nearly all communcations, from all types of devices (from pcs to phones), will be tagged with the time they were sent, the location they were sent from, the device it came from and the actual person that sent it (using biometrics). Pretty close to that now in many respects..

Interesting tactic...hope it helps them at least verify fraudulent usage to weed out people wishing serious harm to others. Wait and see what the numbers show in a year or two.

On an aside ... I literally just finished watching a fabulous doc done by our national broadcaster...actually we have a few very good shows ..one is called "Marketplace" which does really intense indepth exploration of products and services on behalf of consumers....very very good show here....alot of americans who know about it watch even...since we share quite a few products...
"Nature of Things" fabulous enviro doc series.
"The Fifth Estate" our indepth doc show which ya gotta see.
and "Doc Zone" which is another informative ...
anywho ..
Just finished watching Doc Zone's "The Age of the Drone"
Pretty good doc. Great for the under-informed.
I know viewing cbc stuff outside of country may be impossible from their official website ...but I did find youtube had uploads of the show...
sorry that was just a clip..here is the actual episode.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPkbwQmdNLo

and here (hopefully it works outside canada ...) is a Doc Zone youtube channel...with 100+ episodes on various discussions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UUu...UI_g9A1AMkBZPR

Almost all of the shows in question (Nature of Things, Marketplace, The Fifth Estate, Doc Zone...) have vast lists of episodes, topics and docs due to the fact they have been running journalistic series for +40 years on average. So if you can scope out what youtube , other sites and downloads via torrent are available ...all of them are well worth watching.

Ach...I figure both android and ios have a limited lifespan.
The fact is...they are what they are. Their growth market-wise may be massive. Android is heading down the same road that ios took and that means less user involvement in altering, changing or growing.
Their growth is pretty marginal...pretty static because of that.
The increased numbers of users flocking to the big two would account for the fact that there is little in the last few years to really turn to. In fact it would seem compared to where we should be from what we had... the obvious conclusion is that we should be quite a bit ahead of the curve by now. I have seen enough disenchantment on the topic of device and platform voiced by members over the last few years here ...
Hm...you could call it a de-evolution even...
yes... a devo
and on that note...
Let's dance!

Yes, a nice article indeed. If a bit long. It is quite ironic then that the only task that, in his own words, makes him temporarily switch back to Windows is... screencasting. I find it rather interesting because that is exactly the task that I find so much easier to do in Linux than in Windows
