I'm working on doing a cable to connect to the N800 mini usb port, an external USB battery powered charger and to a female usb port.

Anyone have the schematics on such a configuration. It would save the need for a powered usb hub.

Basically it would be mini usb connector, male USB connector and female USB connector Y cable. I would get an off the shelve one but I want to make it compact and light.

I have a Minty Boost charger for the power supply:

Essentially its a cable to create a powered usb port for the N800.

Here's an update on this project. I ended up buying a cable to see if this would work as a powered usb port. It doesn't work. I ended up getting a powered mini-usb hub from Radio Shack. It was $25 but worth it so far. It also allows me to power the hub with the Minty Boost charger.

Here is the url http://www.radioshack.com/sm-buy-the...i-2463878.html

It's a very nice unit and it allows you to power off of a battery usb pack. The hub is small and has a y power cable that works with the mini usb port of the N800. I think that the Y power cable solution won't work. The powered hub solution does.

Not really sure what you were trying trying to run with a single powered USB port using that mini battery pack; the N800/N810 puts out about 200ma when in host mode, and for anything above that I would imagine something like that portable battery pack of yours would get drained quite quickly making it a bit of a strange solution.

To achieve your goal of a powered USB port though the idea I came up with was to create a power adapter/host mode cable that had a Female USB A port on one side, along with a jack for the standard N800/N810 AC power cord; then on the other side have the mini USB connector and another tiny DC connector to plug into the N800/N810 power jack. The idea is you only need the 1 power adapter to power both your USB device and keep the N800/N810 trickle charging at the same time.

Now, whether it's really worth while to build all that up, I don't know, as a powered Hub is a bit easier, but not quite as handy for carrying around...

The set up was for a ultralight travel solution to get 1 powered usb port, but I picked up a off the shelf Y-power cable and it didn't worked. The ultralight usb hub works and I was able to mod the cable to reduce the weight. I had a XD card reader that would not work on the native power suppled in usb host mode but with the powered hub it works.

The solution was to have a battery powered usb charger to increase the amps from the N800 usb port to run a usb wifi adapter. The Y power cable didn't work so I ended up using the Radio Shack ultrasmall usb hub.

I may have to rerig the minty boost since I am using just 1 CR123 battery and 2 in parallel might pushing enough amperage.
