It was a nice idea. But ...
after fiddling a bit and trying to understand why it did not work I clapped my hand on my forehead (or choose another acronym
).
I did not go the way of NOP as I did not bother to lear ASM for arm. But tried to compare to zero instead of 204.
But we never reach that part of code at all! As we receive a timeout/give-up and take another route in code.
So I guess we (ginggs) would need to find the part where icd2 check for timeout and jump there to 1A0E4.
Else we need an online http service or my local workaround.
Besides: a fixed version of icd2 would require either open mode or a patched version of refhashlist, too. Else MALF.

If privacy is problem for somebody, then we can:
1) Make simple app changing /etc/hosts file (to switch between local and remote service, simple 'sed' or 'grep -v' would be enough)
2) socat is so light, that daemon can work all the time (even when using remote service)

Should be quite simple to do a mod_rewrite on almost any server, which answers depending on header "X-Nokia-WLAN-Connectivity-Test" is in the request, and based on that returns the. 204 response.
I vote that we (maemo.org) hosts that.

I've been testing the code in post #23 for the past 24 hours and no problems yet. When I leave wifi coverage, my phone switches to mobile connection and when I return to known wifi coverage, it automatically connects and the connection does not revert to 'Manually used'.

Hello everyone,
ultimately I have frequently the same problem, but it affects my mobile data network. If I check the properties of the mobile connection, it is set to 'Manually used'.
