i'm still wondering if i should buy the n810...

i can't put my hands on it without buying it before, so i have to ask some questions here :-)

a/ can i do voip with a provider like http://ticinocom.ch? (in order to get a "normal" phone number!)

b/ can i get a wireless connection through bluetooth? (at work i can let the mac mini share its internet connection through bluetooth, but we're not allowed to have wifi)

c/ can i do voip over the bluetooth connection built in b/ ?

d/ can i charge the n810 through an usb adapter?

as a bonus:

e/ any good change to get wyrd (http://pessimization.com/software/wyrd/) and remind to work? any other "good" calendaring program?

f/ how bad, sorry how good are the still pictures taken with the built-in camera?

thanks for your help!

a) Gizmo and Skype are your options for voip. Either will let you have an external phone number.
b) Yes, but not with the standard setup. See this blog entry.
c) I expect so.
d) Only with an appropriate cable which plugs into the n810 power socket, not with the supplied usb cable.
f) Not worth writing home about. I had a meeting the other day and photographed the whiteboard twice: with n810 and with Nokia phone: the phone was better quality and neither was nearly as good as I'd have got if I'd remembered my camera.

About a): You can install the RTComm beta software and will be able to VOIP.
(Deve essere possibile, ho fatto un test con sipcall.ch :-)

Don't know how better (or worse) is camera in N810 than in N800 but I hoped for quick "xero" with N800. Results are poor. If I want read text I have to take two photos per one A4 page and still quality is atrocious. It is possible but...

I'd say it's roughly the same as a VGA cameraphone.

Just to make things clear, it really wasn't ever meant to be used as a camera, it's only been included in the hardware for video calls.

There are add-on apps that can use it as a camera, but the quality's not very good because the hardware was never intended for taking pictures.

and this is really really a pity for an internet tablet!

it would have been a wonderfull blogging tool, otherwise: you take a shot of the nonsense you are experiencing, write some sentences about it and it's online!

and since the quality of those bloggers photos is very low, i guess that a cameraphone just a bit better than vga, would have made everybody happy!

... but it's not really my concern... i wanted a cheap and dirty scanner :-)

thanks for all that answers! i will probably buy a n810, then!

ciao
