Was thinking gpd win/pyra/another 1 i have open in tab at home i can't remember name of. then get mid range android or ios device to use purely as phone and tethering. just means carrying 2 devices so not ideal.

recently wondered about jolla 1 again. unfortunately pokemon go (not interested in it but makes point) won't run due to android version. how many others will not work in the future?

fairphone 2/turing with sailfish still looking like better options. missed jolla c (damn that work thing invading gadget buying time) and specs wise not sure if intex/jolla c is as good as these 2..

same story at the moment replacing my 8 year old eee 1000. specs wise they haven't changed a great deal (storage/ram particularly). Might be a transformer 3 or transformer mini eventually, no rush as it still works fine and make a mockery of most other devices regarding boot/shutdown speed.

miss the days I could just go "i want that", like with the eee, n95, n900.

The local rep brought one around when I was shopping
(I ended up buying another Fujitsu, too expensive).

It certainly is a Toughbook. the i5 3320M is also fast enough to do games like Automation on it!

I feel just like that. N900's screen has become too small for me after configuring some 5.5" Android for my parents. I feel so cluttered right now on our 3.5" screen.

Won't carry two devices, no no.

Browsing on N900 is becoming such a big pain. I'm becoming more on more frustrated that most mobile web pages fail to display at all on our dated browser.

With the dated base system, we can't even easily reuse desktop components. No way to catch up on either desktop or Android. (see my recent remarks on Telegram)

I'll be co-working on DebiaN900, since I don't throw away working devices. Unless I'll fully switch to Debian, my only next choice will be some 5"-5.5" device. Nothing less in size, it's now just as important as the hardware keyboard. Probably some Android, since Sailfish is not mature yet. But preferably with drivers decent enough to be able to libhybris Sailfish, Ubuntu or Plasma.

I'm even more frustrated there aren't any recent and decent hwkb phones. I see two options right now.
- Fairphone2. It's pricey, but is fully modular, easy to repair, so it may be a good investment. (what do you think?)
Is there any chance for the Fairphone2 to get cheaper in a year or two?
- Galaxy S5 with some bt keyboard (I don't know how available they are nowadays, but some were produced)

So I can hopefully learn something that wasn't necessarily pointed out in a written article/review...
From a consumer standpoint.
Like, if there are any defects, or other stuff you wouldn't want to learn AFTER you buy it.

Needless to say I avoid reviews by resellers like Gearbest or Bangood..etc

just add the prefered linux OS, the peripherals (touch screen, keyboard, mouse, etc), adapt a battery pack, print a 3d case to fit all together, and.. perhaps you have the best handheld gnu/linux machine

I hear the whole `n900 screen too small and the browser don`t cut it anymore` and that the n8x0 were not open enough` and it`s true ..

Still... the n8x0 was and is a great device still ... I still use mine and putter away working on odd stuff... I always loved the screen real estate... and I love the simplicity of the os..... compared to the slick precariously slapped together stuff nowaday..

The n900 is pretty much suffering the same tech displacement that the n8x0 went through too..

I enjoy my media ....film and audio and farting around on my n8x0`s
No eyestrain there...
I enjoy using my n900 as my primary phone...
but yeah the browser issues now make the n900 a `non- daily driver` ... if you can`t look up where a local taco shop is... while some ninny sitting beside you can find some cilantro-based eatery using his eyephone or drood ... then that becomes a sad sad day..

I used to think cramming a n900 or beagle into a n810 body....was the ultimate...

But eventually the demands of the world would again impose...

Now I am beginning to recant my thought on the `Lego phone`
the Ara...
such concept means one can upgrade as needed...

If we can just crack er open and stick debian on it ... well.... that would make me content....
