But of course one's finger pads might be visible from some direction in pretty much every case when one's not making a fist, wearing gloves or keeping hands in pockets... especially if your opponent were targeting you in particular.

I knew I read about this sort of thing before . . . The Red Thumb Mark by R. Austin Freeman. Available as a PD ebook in various forms, which -- to keep this vaguely on topic -- can be read on Sailfish on a Turing Phone with "Books" available in the Jolla store.

(Not the digital camera part, the fake print part.)

The designer is probably the only one getting his salary and so he is doing his job.
