Okay, I'm back. It happened last night -- I disconnected the Stowaway and couldn't get the virtual keyboard to come up until I rebooted. So there's definitely more to this than just the predictive text (although turning off the predictive text is still very helpful!)

After flashing to Diablo, whenever I use the backspace key the keyboard dissapers. It's really annoying, and when I press the settings button it dissapears too.

That's interesting -- as a test, I just hit my backspace key more than a hundred times and the keyboard didn't disappear. How do I do this trick?

"So let's see. If I have the N800 paired to my BT keyboard and need to take it with me (without the BT KB) I should put it in the freezer for 20 [EDIT: actually 10] minutes (a prerequisite for rebooting with my N800!)"

This sounds like an urban legend. I have had an N800 and I don't have this problem. And by the way, why do you have to reboot at all? When I take my N800 with me, I don't reboot, I just take it.

Edit. I went back and looked at that other thread. So, let me get this straight. A bunch of you found that you had to put your tablets in the freezer to reboot them, and you didn't return them? Amazing. So I guess you didn't reboot them till the warrantee ran out, then it was too late?

Sounds like a hardware problem. Maybe a not properly seated SD card.

I also have seen the disappearing vkeyboard when hitting DELETE. But only rarely and I'm not sure how to repeat.

I've seen it a lot. Easiest way to reproduce it, is to start typing a reply on ITT.

Assuming for now that there's some honest interest behind the sarcasm: There was always considerable uncertainty about whether the problem was caused by a hardware or software defect. In any case the April release of the system software fixed the problem for most people who reported it.

See https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2673.

It was an OMAP timing issue with new hardware (race condition) that could be alleviated by reducing the temperature of the OMAP core. It's a software defect solved by a NOLO update in the 2.2008.51-3 release of Maemo. All one has to do to solve it is to update to 51-3 or later.
